Hats Off To Clint Dahl And River City Hotel Managment In Securing Delta For Prince George

Tuesday, October 8, 2013 @ 3:45 AM
A feather in the cap of Clint Dahl for his and his company’s successful bid to have a Delta Hotel built in this city.

The 35 million dollar hotel will be top drawer, and while it will not include those condominiums that everyone seems to feel they must comment on, it is the first major private development in the downtown  in  recent memory.

Oh you may hear that the Commonwealth Health building was one of the few, but keep in mind that project was a renovation of the existing Casino.

Dahl and River City Hotel Management did the leg work to attract Delta and the commitment.

That simply says it all.

It is the first top flight hotel to come on stream in this city in many years and it will have the effect of encouraging the other hotel chains to get with the program or find themselves searching for tenants.

We have had development in the downtown, but virtually every single item in recent years has been the result of city or government money, not one single dime has been private investment.

Hats off to Clint Dahl and crew.  It is an announcement worth crowing about.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

Yes, hats off to Clint!!! It took a long time and likely lots of hard work, but it is now happening.

I know who Clint is, but I have not got the faintest clue who River City Hotel Management is.

It is a bit confusing.

From news reports, I am under the impression that Delta will manage the hotel operations.

I am assuming that River City Hotel Management, whoever they are, is actually the owner and developer of the property. Where is that company located and has it previously developed any other hotel properties?

I agree this is good news. The increased competition will get all the area hotels to pick up their respective games.

This is a clearer view of the hotel. Based on the walkway in the front, this is the east side of the hotel facing the Library and Civic Centre. At first I thought with the small image that this was the Brunswick Street side.

That should make the public spaces a bit more pleasant, although this side will be in shade in the afternoon.

Congrats RCHM. It is a hotel, so perhaps condo’s don’t suit thier business model. PG should continue to pursue high density living in downtown. Since “everybody” feels the need to comment on the condos, I figured I might as well too!

I agree that this is good news, however there have been a number of hotels built in the past few years. The Casino and Sandman come to mind, plus the one across the street from the Sandman.

Some hotels/motels are going to lose business because of these new hotels, and as a result will close down, or become less than a desirable place to stay.

Such is the way of business.

Actually in another Clint Dahl is reported as saying that the condos are being considered as a second phase in the future.

So there is still room for them on the property.

That should read “in another report in the media”

I see Nanaimo has a proposal for a 21 Story $50 Million hotel.

This hotel will be used as a drop off point for 70,000 customers a year arriving on package tours from China.

The deal hinges on a new fast ferry service between Vancouver and Nanaimo, which doesn’t appear to be a problem.

Those same Chinese visitors are also potential customers for the PG area.

I was told some time ago by a Canadian who worked in the foreign service in China and Russia that the Chinese love the outdoor wilderness in much the same way as some Europeans are drawn to that. Except the Chinese have a crowd about 10 times larger.

There was supposed to be a Westin built in Nanaimo when the convention centre was built a few moons ago. Never happened. Of course, they have their Port Theatre down there as well.

There is a fast ferry sitting in the harbour for some time.

I think if one was to get going again, it would be the 4th time since 1980 or so that such a service would exist.

Yes. Hats off to Clint Dahl. And Rod McLeod who has also been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen.
And hats off to Ben Meisner who correctly reports, that this is all private venture capital vs govt initiative. Huge difference and a big show of support for our reviving community
