Some Shaw Services Hit By Outage
Friday, October 11, 2013 @ 4:33 PM
Prince George, B.C. – Shaw customers in the Cariboo and Central Interior have been left without portions of their service this afternoon.
The company says it’s fibre optic system has been cut, impacting cable television and phone service for customers in Williams Lake, Quesnel and Prince George. Some Shaw customers in Prince George appear to have full internet service while some do not.
There is no indication when the problem will be rectified but Shaw says it has people working on it.

We Shaw bundled, so no phone or cable service right now and for most of the day, and… a… very… slow… internet…. s e r v i c e….
That is why I still have a landline I refuse to have just one type of phone service with a landline you are almost guaranteed to have phone service.
Yes paying for 2 phone bills can be costly but its piece of mind and a guarantee to be able to call out
Same here. I hope they give us 1 day credit like the Rogers outage yesterday. haha
Bummer guys ! Shaw Direct is working great, football game at 6:00.
no football here!! no nuthin! i thought i forgot to pay my bill!!! cant wait to tear into shaw!
Telus is working great, thanks! :-)
One day Rogers next day Shaw, suck service.
Lots of debit down around town. When to TD the Pinecenter and could not get any of for my money out from the teller even know I have a business account. But I lucky have an Spruce Credit union account still real bank or two in PG. I guess my old dad at 89 right Cash is still king. Funny how thee are all on a Friday before a long weekend LOL.
I have a Shaw bundle plus a Rogers cell phone. I suppose accidents happen, unless it was done on purpose by some freaks. Hope they get it fixed as soon as possible!
My cable has been out since 1:00. My ph from 1:00-7:00 and my internet is sporadic and VERY slow. When I called and asked about a refund or discount for the lack of service, I was told to pound sand. When I told them two guys were here yesterday soliciting for Telus (true story) and I turned them away, and then asked if he (the Shaw tech on the phone) knew the number for Telus, cause I couldn’t look it up on the internet, or call them from my phone, but I could call them back from my cell to see what they could offer as SERVICE, he literally hung up on me. For the most part, Shaw has been pretty good, but it was my 3rd call in four hours before they actually even knew what the problem was.
Seems to be back to normal in CH now.
Pretty bad when even the landline won’t work.
And the last time this happened to Telus was when?
My internet was faster with shaw having a problem than a whole year with telus running normal.
Someone cut the cable. Well was the place secure enough for that person not being able to cut the cable? I was thinking on phoning Shaw this morning and complain about it. It’s not the 1980’s anymore. Where service to channels suddenly go to snow. We got phones now from them. It’s a important service.

I would of told you to go pound salt as well!
Shaw and Rogers are not telecommunications services as defined by the CRTC regulations. They are primarily cable service providers, and not subject to the “continuation of service” requirement the Telus is bound to. Remember Telus bought BC Telephone* (*a federally regulated telecommunications service). So when you’re a deregulated cable service provider, you don’t need to stay within the requirements to ensure “service up time” like a telephone company is regulated to do.
Rogers and Shaw do not provide essential services to government or private industrial contracts, and they can do what ever, when ever. So when you need to dial 911 and your voip service doesn’t work, your cell phone has no service, the one think that always works is that good old pair of copper wires. Simply because someone many years ago put legislation in place ensuring that the “phone companies” ensure service with set repair requirements.
