Timberwolves end in scoreless draw against Bisons

Friday, October 11, 2013 @ 10:06 PM

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – The UNBC Timberwolves and Manitoba Bisons ended their match in a 0-0 draw on Friday, October 11. Both teams take home a point with the Timberwolves moving to 0-7-2, while the Bisons now sit at 1-5-4 in Canada West play.

Possession was split equally in the first half but Manitoba came out in the second half and took control of the game. The Bisons attack doubled in the second 45, going from seven shots to 15, for a total of 22 in the game. Fifth year forward Laura Stewart (Poplar Point, MB) led the Bisons charge, looking for the go ahead goal. It looked like she was going to get it in the 82nd minute when a ball from Selina Speranza (Winnipeg, MB) came to Stewart in the box. Stewart got up and put a head on it but the ball bounced wide of the net by mere inches. Stewart finished the game with seven of the Bisons 22 shots.

The Timberwolves controlled the first half, creating multiple chances to score. For UNBC it was second year midfield Sidney Roy who put the most pressure on the Manitoba keepers. Roy fired off five of the Timberwolves 12 shots during the game. Roy’s scoring opportunities were a combined effort from both centre midfield Sydney Wilson (Prince George, BC) and rightwing Jessica Erickson (Prince George, BC). The work horse for the Timberwolves in the second half was keeper Jordan Hall (Prince George, BC). Hall, a third year player, stopped 10 shot attempts in the second half alone – 14 in total for the game.

Forward Laura Stewart (Poplar Point, MB) was named MVP for the Bisons, while midfield Sydney Wilson took home MVP honours for the Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves continue with their regular season play on Sunday, October 13 against the Winnipeg Wesmen. Kick off is set for 12 p.m. at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League Fields. The Manitoba Bisons host the University of Victoria on October 18, and the University of Fraser Valley on October 19.
