Moose Put Down After Collision With Car

Sunday, October 13, 2013 @ 4:06 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The advice to motorists went out Friday and it didn’t take long for the reasoning behind the advisory to be borne out.

Staff-Sergeant Pat McTiernan with Prince George Regional Traffic Services reminded those driving northern roads this long weekend to keep an eye out for wildlife venturing near or crossing roadways. He noted that with temperatures cooling and winter approaching, bears, moose and other animals are moving around searching for food to fatten themselves up.

Shortly after 7 Saturday night, about an hour after dark, someone driving a car on Northwood Pulpmill Road hit a calf moose. The driver was not hurt but the calf was. It was put down by an eyewitness to the incident.

They need to put more radar on that road.
There is always vehicles’ speeding.

Was the moose hit by a speeding vehicle?
I think the moose was speeding. Should go after them instead.

Maybe a stupid question, but here goes. While I am sure it was the humane thing to do, the eyewitness who put down the calf? I am assuming they used a firearm in City limits to do so? Is this legal, despite being morally understandable ? Just curious. I am sure the usual gang here on 250 will blaze me for asking. Probably would’ve taken a long time for a Conservation Officer to arrive.

Those cops at Prince George Regional Traffic Services certainly know what fattening up is all about !!!
