Prince George, B.C. – The outdoor Farmer’s Market season has come to an end but fear not, the indoor market runs all year long and is stocked full of the products of the various vendors.
Saturday was the final day of the market at Third and George and it’s quite noticeable that the end is coming because the number of vendors drops off steadily as the cool weather creeps in. But the outdoor season, which runs from May to October outside the courthouse, has been quite successful according to one vendor.
Shelley Dilworth-Mills (pictured above) has been busy selling her “Scent-Sational Candles there this year. She says it has been a “great year. The weather has been great, there were lots of vendors at the market, lots of customers.” Asked whether the market has grown, she says “I wasn’t here last year, this is my first year but I would say it’s at least as big as last year, if not a bit bigger.”
Shelley says the success of the market can be weather-dependent. “The cooler it gets the less vendors and customers. In the summer it doesn’t seem to matter what the weather is, there’s usually lots of customers.” And she says based on the success she had this year she definitely plans to be back when the outdoor market opens next May.
Down George Street to 6th Avenue where the indoor Farmer’s Market is going gangbusters. The cooler weather has put an end to vendors setting up tables outside, but the crowd inside on Saturday gave a good indication of just how popular the market is (photos below).
The wide range of vegetables available from local growers is quite impressive, as are the meat products, artworks, crafts, the salsa, baked goods, treats for your pooch, and all of the other items available for purchase at the market. It’s open every Saturday of the year from 8:30 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon.

We purchased some fresh baby carrots and yellow potatoes from one of the vendors pictured above and used them with some locally produced pork to have a most amazing supper last night. So much flavor !
Forgot there are 2 outdoor markets downtown. Should help put life into George street during the summer months.
