Prince George, BC – It is a gamer’s delight this weekend, as Northern Players Connection presents its 3rd annual convention…
Organizers of NPC-Con had to send out for more registrations forms yesterday, as more than 65 gaming enthusiasts turned out to the hall at Knox United Church for day one of the convention.
Volunteer Coordinator, CJ Birch, says the gathering features a number of table top role play games, board games, mini wargames, and live action role play.
She says Northern Players Connection grew out of a desire to help people connect with other gamers in Prince George and says the core group of six have all become good friends. "We’ve seen a lot of new gaming groups form after each con."
Birch says Games Masters lead individual sessions at the various tables in the hall, with the local group, Pathfinder Society, hosting its version of Dungeon & Dragons; Orktoberfest’s Warhammer 40k tournament going on; and the group, Last Fort Before Dawn, hosting live action role play in the evenings.
This is the first con for Naomi Polnik (playing Duck Hunt at right with Jordan Bird). Polnik and her husband just opened Games Quest on Dominion Street in downtown Prince George.
"We are into retro gaming," she says. "We have everything from the 70s, to next month, we have the brand new systems coming out that you can come into the store and try out."
She says normally video games aren’t part of the convention, but NPC members invited them to attend and she’s been enjoying making connections with local gamers. Armoury Games & Hobbies is also on-hand with a gaming table and supplies. Yesterday, reps from K-Max Games & Videos in Quesnel were at the con.
Another full day of gaming gets underway this morning, with the first session at 10:30am, session two begins at 2:30pm, followed by a costume parade and awards ceremony at 6:30pm, and the final gaming session starts at 7pm. Cost to attend the day is $10.
