Mule Deer Hunting Cut Back In Peace Region

Ft St John, B.C. – The three point Mule Deer season has been suspended in the northern region of BC after surveys have found that the mule deer population has suffered as a result of a series of bad winters combined with increased hunting pressure.
For this fall, the mule deer hunting season in select areas of the Peace region will be as follows;
The three point Buck season has been changed to a four point season running from November1st to November 30th in management units 7-20 to 7-22, 7-31 to 7-35, 7-43 zone b to 7-47 and 7-54.
The general open season for antlerless mule deer in management unit 7-20a has been closed and replaced with a limited entry . That season will run from Dec 1st to Dec 20th-2013.
The fall bow season has been cancelled.
All other Peace region mule deer hunts remain the same.
The Mule deer season was originally expanded in 2005 in response to high mule deer populations in agriculture areas. The objective was to reduce deer populations in those areas by up to 50%. Heavy snow in the Peace over the past few years has resulted in a poor fawn survival rate .

heavy snow ? I suspect it has to do with higher predator populations … I have never seen so many cats, wolves and G-bears up that way untill this last fall
I saw many Grizz (5 distint differant ones) in a 100 sq KM area this august while I was triing to fill a Moose tag …
Yes they have had re old snow falls the last few years in the peace. Last years nov and dec snow falls were actually records if I’m not mistaken. There are lots of predators and the snow fall only makes I that much easier for the wolves and coyotes to target deer.
“The fall bow season has been cancelled”
Cancelled for antlerless Mule deer only, any bucks were still open.
There “were” a lot of wolves in the farmland areas I hunt and soon to be “were” a lot of coyotes.
Off topic just a bit, but does anyone know any information on the bear cub and moose that were randomly shot and dumped at the gravel pit at Tabor Lake? Terrible, if it is true.
You want to know whats happened to our wildlife, take a ride on CN RAIL in the early spring. The tracks are littered with hides of all shapes and sizes.CN RAIL has dramaticle increased its runs all over BC, and they refuse to fence off high inpact areas.
I heard about that willyj through Facebook, friend of a friend posted a pic asking if anyone knows anything to turn in the person (s) responsible. That gives all hunters a bad name and is sickening to see.
Why would anyone shoot a bear and a moose and then go to the trouble of dumping it in a pit at Tabor Lake??? Wouldn’t they just leave it where it was, or were they headed into town, and had to ditch the goods.
Another possibility is that these carcasses are road kill and were dumped their by Highways staff. Not unusual for them to dump animals in pits.
Havent seen anything official in any media that would lead one to believe that these killings were illegal.
