The DBIA and initiatives prince george, are good examples of job creation on the backs of businesse owners and taxpayers.
We dont need either of them.
IPG, DBIA, Chamber of Commerce.
Have they prevented further erosion of downtown? Who knows. They have certainly not done anything much for which they can pat themselves on their backs.
If they did, I would like to see their achievements …. especially in the form of their annual goals and achievements based on their goals.
There is nothing wrong with having a DBIA but no one should be getting a wage, this way everyone gets together and they improve the downtown. As it stands in PG the business owners get a heavy tax and all they get for it is an office and high paid staff. So they leave it up to the DBIA to do all the work. In one City I know all the DBIA were the business owners with a rep from each block and they met in a different business each time and no one was paid. Did it work – yes!
In PG we have an IPG, DBIA, and all they seem to do is empire build in their own offices.
How much are we paying Ms. Johnston? For what? I see a new shopping centre coming to town, just south of the new car dealership, and hotel, on highway 16 west, just north of a fairly new business area, restaurant, refurbished Superstore, fairly new car dealership, Costco, refurbished electrical and sign store, leading the way to a hill which drives by a major shopping area with two new stores currently being built, meanwhile downtown gets a six floor Popsicle stand that no one really has a need for…? Good job DBIA.. :(
Remember, we have the Gateway Business Improvement Area …. Don’t think they have any staff. Doing a nice job of sprucing up the area, even have a sculpture, nice signs at the entries and a mural on the old school.
