Prince George, B.C. –As the temperature decreases, the desire to warm up your vehicle increases. An  incident this morning,  outlines the dangers of  "warming up the  vehicle".

Just before 8 this morning, Prince George RCMP were called to a report of an theft of vehicle on Cluculz Avenue in the City.

A suspect, described only as wearing dark pants and a dark hoody, got out of a silver Honda Civic and got into an unlocked,  vacant pick-up truck, that was "warming up"  in a residential driveway.  The truck was idling, the key in the ignition.
The suspect stole the truck, but ended up colliding with a utility box a couple blocks away on Davie Avenue.

The suspect fled the scene.
General Duty officers and a Police Service Dog attended the area to search for the suspect, but he, or she, was not located.

The Prince George RCMP are sending  out a reminder, to make sure  vehicles are  secured, even when warming them up in the morning. It only takes a thief a few seconds to jump into a running vehicle and drive away. The use of remote car starters is recommended.

If you have any information about this vehicle theft or the person(s) responsible, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477, online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca (English only), or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES (274637) using keyword "pgtips".

Most people, I hope get it. You lock your vehicle when its warming up and leave your steering wheel or brake lock on. AND, the spare set of keys you use to unlock it have the key to your house and the locks on it.

Or just get a remote start, can’t steal it

Huh ! How about catching the perp and making them wear a (I’m a dirty rotten thief) sign around their neck for a year.

What happened to the Silver Honda Civic??

It was probably low on gas.

A repo job gone wrong?
metalman.

How embarrassing. I’m sure ICBC will understand.
