Prince George, B.C. – It’s that time of year again when the makers of good quality products, you know the homemade stuff, gather under one roof to display, and hopefully sell, their wares.
Taking a stroll around the gymnasium at D.P. Todd Secondary this weekend affords a person the opportunity to view these superbly-made crocheted items, wooden bird houses of all shapes and sizes, jams and jellies, jewelry, soaps and oils and skin care products, embroidery, tarts, fantastic Christmas stockings, knitted scarves, fudge, glass ornaments, fleece pajamas, gluten free and vegan goodies, ceramic critters, wall hangings, knitted blankets and an assortment of tarts and cookies and other baked goods that wouldn’t stand a chance of making it anywhere near Christmas Day.
Looking at the vast array of items on display leaves you with an appreciation of the talents some people have and their ability to transform ideas into actual, physical work of art that are certainly of value. It also inspires an appreciation of the amount of time and work that goes into filling these tables with products which fill the gym with people who admire, and hopefully purchase, the products.
Yes it’s Christmas craft fair time with events both big and small taking place virtually every weekend leading up to the 25th of December. The D.P. Todd fair runs from 10am to 4pm again today. Some craft fairs even take place on weekdays. CNC has one coming up from 10 am to 2pm on Wednesday. Next Saturday it’s the Immaculate Conception Craft Fair, with more to come.
Of course if your favorite “ware on display” happens to be the one above, as is the case with moi, well you can bet that you’ll be loosening the belt long before you ever sit down to that turkey dinner.

I do my Christmas shopping at the craft fairs every year. The talent we have in this city is amazing! Plus, they’re a great place to go to and bump into old friends and acquaintances.
I enjoy going to these things with the family. We went yesterday but left after about 5 minutes. It was just too crowded and cramped to walk through with a baby in a buggy. It would be nice to see them expand into the hallways of the school a little bit as opposed to cramming as much as they did in the gym.
Crowds ….. one of the problems of success.
Getting away from crowds and line-ups and traffic is one of the reasons I moved here from a much larger city.
