Prince George, B.C. –More kudos for a member of the teaching staff at UNBC.
Nursing Professor Dr. Davina Banner-Lukaris, has been recognized by the Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses for her mentorship and heart research.
“It is a great honour for me,” says Dr. Banner-Lukaris. Her research centres on atrial fibrillation, a type of irregular heartbeat that can lead to stroke. Her research has involved healthcare providers and patients from communities throughout Northern B.C.
“Everyone involved has a great, genuine desire to improve health in northern and rural communities” says Dr. Banner-Lukaris.
The teaching staff at the University are no strangers to awards that recognize their achievements. Here are some of the awards delivered to UNBC profs in the last 15 months:
· Forestry Professor Dr. Kathy Lewis, was named “ Academic of the Year" by the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC for her research on the Mountain Pine Beetle
· Dr. Bill McGill was elected a “Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science”,
· Dr. Sarah de Leeuw, a UNBC graduate and professor in the Northern Medical Program became the first-ever northern BC-based recipient of a partnered scholar award from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) and the NCCAH.
· International Studies professor Heather Smith honoured for teaching excellence by the Canadian Political Science Association (CPSA).

This is nice to read. The UNBC is ticking along quite well.
Do people at the hospital get recognition as well from associations they belong to? Do not recall seeing any, but I suspect there must be some.
