Friday Free For All, – Nov. 15, 2013

Friday, November 15, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

Half way through November already!

It is the end of another week, so that can only mean one thing.

It is time for the FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL.

You pick the topic, but please,  we ask that you  obey  our three simple  rules.

Keep it clean

Keep it legal

No Bullying of others.

Happy Friday….Winter is on its way this week.

Any one know why they are tearing down the new storage building mounted over top of sea containers behind the casino? They almost had it finished….Good thing…It looked horrible.

SNOWING…. if it is at all possible, it is a good day for common sense on the roads people…
leave 5 minutes earlier and go a little slower… the life you save might be your own.

I dream

OK, the mayor has made it very clear that “the city has no money”. So, they are looking to create a new industrial site…what about all the development that they put into the new section of the Willowcale that has yet to be utilized in the BCR site?
The city bought, cleaned-up and then donated the land (PG hotel) fr the Wood Innovation Building. Anyone know the true cost to taxpyers over this?
Now the PAC is going to council for a new Performing Arts Building…I do believe the city has already purchased the property for this (old Norgate building and mechanic shop by the Keg)….
Mayor Green, time to start explaining yourself.. P.S..I am broke, does that mean that I should start making bad real estate investments too??

“OK, the mayor has made it very clear that “the city has no money”

And who is it exactly that told her that?

I am just going to throw some of my own figures out as in shooting from the hip, which is what she did when she ran her campaign.

In my humble opinion, the City Manager should be able to find 10% by increasing efficiency of city staff and keeping the same effectiveness by re-arranging staff and reducing the total number of people on payroll

The City should sell the Norgate property and put a PAC onto the Exhibition Ground, provide a few more spots for a hotel or two, move Studio 2880 there so that they can sell that property as well.

That way we would have an additional space for concerts, conferences, conventions, etc. The property is already in city ownership and additional pieces can be sold off for commercial support facilities. In fact, that private money that is shown to be a potential for such a facility could be a hotel with restaurant and pub for pre and post event gatherings.

The whole notion of where a PAC should go and what facilities an “Exhibition Park” should have has been given a bit of a jolt with the hotel proposal.

Excellent job by the cops arresting all these lowlifes lately! I am blown away by the article this morning. Assaulted while getting your mail! It is a good reminder to all of us to be careful whether you are at an atm or getting a knock on your door from strangers. I certainly hope that lady is ok!

“The City should sell the Norgate property”

Good one gus:) Might have a chance of selling the land if they could move it to College Heights or somewhere else in town. CBD is one of the few places where the old adage “Buy land they’re not making it any more” does not ring true. That is unless you are a wanna-be developer using free money.

TO THE CITY MANAGERS…..On the Hart we have 20cm of snow, still snowing….Where are you PLOWS.. I thought 12 cm was when the call out for snow removable was to take effect.

Seen the Citizen this morning bout the weapons seizure???

Talking about city having no money, they just added to their business liscence that every rental unit needs a business liscence. This include owners renting a single unit (house, townhouse, etc) to every unit in an apartment building. Anyone else affected by this?

Everything looks so fresh and clean this morning with all that snow..

I cannot fathom how these scum can be out on bail, given their propensity to re-offend…I mean, what does their lawyer tell the judge this time about these nice innocent boys…lists of priors as long as your arm.

I agree Checkitout . Just goes to show also that no area in town is immune to these creeps.

—————-

They blew their budget last week when they plowed all that pavement.

Not an ounce of snow fell in Smithers :P

Yea…but you are still in Smithers:P

re Casino building teardown.

Although unconfirmed – The C-Cans (SeaCans?) that were being used for the foundation for the roof trussses were considered to be improper supports for the structure. I believe you will see concrete foundations being poured in the very near future.

Which begs the question – why was the original structure allowed to be built with a C-Can supported roof but the new structure has been deemed unsuitable ?

Come on People! It’s snowing! Turn on your headlights AND your taillights, please! Wouldn’t hurt to slow down a bit as well!

On another note, was interesting to hear that our municipal workers who are currently seeking a new contract are already the third highest paid municipal workforce in the province. According to what I heard on the local news, even with the City’s latest offer, our municipal workers will remain the third highest! The City really really really needs to hold their position in these negotiations! Not very likely though as this City seems to spend like money grows on trees!

Not very like

Smithers is alot better then PG in many ways hehe. But true, we will catch up on the snow sooner or later.

When are the ones that can do this give that mayor in Toronto the Hook? Hasn’t this been going on long enough? He admitted that he didn’t tell the truth and that he is not well….well, all of Canada and globally the media have been having a field day!

Give him a break and FORCE him to take time off before he has a complete meltdown!

Hart Guy: “On another note, was interesting to hear that our municipal workers who are currently seeking a new contract are already the third highest paid municipal workforce in the province.”

I heard a CUPE spokesperson complaining on the radio a couple days ago that releasing that information was in ‘poor taste’ when they were in the middle of a contract negotiation.

Too bad, I say.

awwww we still picking on the City workers???

Maybe they are just trying to figure out which area to plow first.. I see the hyways plows were out early. Snow on Hart and CH and hardly any downtown..

Al the years that we lived in Prince George We found the people very friendly and likable. Our family grew up and were educated at Prince George Senior Secondary. However like many others in our society the vision of Prince George residents was not that great of their community.

When there is a 32% turnout at municipal election leaves a great deal to be desired in when ir some’s to community spirit and vision of what their community should look like.

There have been a number of great rallies in Prince George over the years that have swayed governments to rethink some of their legislation. So why don’t people get out at election time and show our governments that they are watching.

So you might as well stop whining about the poor government that you have. Even if people like Mayor Green are elected they will think twice before they defy their community.
Cheers

Let’s just turf out Rob Ford. We don’t like him. Democracy? Screw democracy! We don’t need no stinkin’ democracy. Thin edge of the wedge? Slippery slope? Could happen. I still treasure my democracy even if I have to hold my nose. Democracy? Don’t give it a second thought.

Donald Mackenzie: “On the Hart we have 20cm of snow, still snowing….Where are you PLOWS.. I thought 12 cm was when the call out for snow removable was to take effect.”

You forgot one key thing …. this is Friday, then comes the weekend. This is a common occurrence in the winter … snow large amounts over the weekend….. at the time when the City does not plow.

Wait till Sunday night. See what is left to plow at that time. Measure the snow on the road and that time. If it is 12cm ….. they might plow. ;-)

The craziest thing with Ford is that Charlies Sheen, who is filming in Toronto, chimed in and he is disputing that the reporter got his comments wrong … LOL….

Sheen must have been high!! LOL

Great idea that the reporter had, though!!! Asking a person who knows what it is to be that high ….

From msn news

“Toronto city council has voted to both remove Mayor Rob Ford’s authority during emergency situations and, under a separate motion, has stripped his power to hire and fire the deputy mayor and appoint members of his executive committee.

“The motions passed 41-2 and 39-3, respectively, at council’s meeting Friday morning. They are the first of three motions aimed at leaving Ford as mayor in name only.

“He will continue his last 11 months as mayor with severely limited powers.

“Ford still has the authority to declare an emergency but, in that event, authority would pass to the deputy mayor.

“The vote on the third motion is expected Monday. It would reduce his staff and office budget to that of a regular city councillor.”

Finally!!!! Wonder if they will film his tantrums after this.

RIP Jack Munroe! Thanks for all you’ve done!

Was walking along the Beach in Parksville BC a number of years ago and there was Jack Munro sitting in a pick up truck looking at the ocean. Gave him a wave, and said Hi Jack.

With all this snow and the melting that is taking place this is a good time to see all the problems that the City is having with Storm Water Run-off.

Keep your eyes open and report all the problems to the City, so that when they get all the money from the humungus increase to taxes the Storm Water Utility will bring in, they will know exactly where the problems are.

There is one slight problem. What if the water just runs down the drains and disappears without creating any problems. Would this mean that the City is bsssing us?

That is where it is supposed to go. BUT, the time is coming when they should be replacing the older part of the infrastructure, namely in the downtown and immediately adjacent to the City.

So, instead of making the payment catchment area based and making those people in the catchment area pay most of it, just as they do when they are putting in storm and sanitary systems where there are none, they are dinging the whole city, which they are doing anyway if it were to continue to come out of general tax revenues. Now they are creating a supposedly “fairer” utility charge system, which is no fairer, and likely less fairer than the current system.

In other words, I am in a subdivision that is 35 years old and drains its storm water much closer to the catchment area and has nothing to do with the Millar catchment area, for instance, yet my dollars will go to the Millar subdivisions many decades before mine will have to be dealt with.

By that time we will all realize we should be back to local rock pits or private rock pits and retention ponds, especially in the bowl area. You see, that is another way to go, but we do not have thinkers like that at City Hall.

Ah yes, retention ponds and rock pits in gravel areas of the city. The novelty of that is astounding, isn’t it.

The original parts of Kanata in Ottawa still rely on such a system of storm water containment. It was developed over 55 years ago.

We should not think we have all the answers. We share this word with some great thinkers, many who have come and gone before we could even talk.

Just drove in to town from Cluculz. Nasty roads. Once again, a transport truck passes on an unplowed passing lane full of slop and reeks havoc. I realize it is a passing lane but have some respect for the vehicles who have to deal with the white out and slush they are coated in just so you can go 5k faster.

opine – Containers –

City can’t tax these containers can they?

The city changed the zoning for storage areas in 2007. The containers are not permanent structures. Even by building a roof would not change it.

The city rezoned 216 properties with one stroke of a pen – C6 zoning. Why are storage containers not allowed on properties?

So the guy with all the weapons that was arrested in the Hart owns the Pastry Chief downtown. And now we know how get got all those holes in the doughnuts.

Toronto’s city council is giving a lot of respect to democracy! They voted by a majority vote that the mayor (for his own good) take a leave and get professional help. More democracy: The premier states that the mayor will be removed (for his own good) as soon as the council votes by a majority to ask the premier to do it.

Turf out Ron Ford? I don’t agree! Get him to take a time off so he can get himself together! An acting mayor will run the show until he returns!

Let’s be reasonable!

“Turf out Ron Ford? I don’t agree! Get him to take a time off so he can get himself together! An acting mayor will run the show until he returns!Let’s be reasonable!”

I think this goes way beyond not having it together. This man was voted in to position by the public expecting him to uphold the laws of the land. Instead, he at the very least did crank cocaine and was associated with known gang members. He just said he “probably has more bones in his closet” that have not been exposed. He got mad because “when it come to questioning is integrity as a father he sees red” (more accusations involving hookers and sexual harassment?)….. This man has no integrity… none. Yes he has to get things together, but, for himself and his family. Not for his office. That ship has sailed. He should be gone. Lets be reasonable!

“Turf out Ron Ford? I don’t agree! Get him to take a time off so he can get himself together! An acting mayor will run the show until he returns!”

They tried to, but could not. They are not turfing him. He will be a mayor in name only….. in other words, a mayor without clothes …… what a sight that must be….

He is a criminal, nothing more. The fact that he is still there is a embarrassment and indicative of how on a larger scale our priorities are screwed up.

His personal life hadn’t affected his job as mayor. The vultures are sickening. I would love to see him as mayor of PG. As would multitudes of others I suspect.

Anyone know what they are building on the Hart by MacDonalds?

BC Hydro says the power will be out from 6 to 6:30 Sunday morning.
The Prince George areas of Beaverly, College Heights, Lower College Heights, West Lake, Haldi Road, Westgate, ad Mudd River will be part of the outage.

Over a foot of snow in the hart and still no snow plows out. In years gone by they at least did the hills by morning when we had this much snow, but not anymore.

That said this will be nothing compared to next Friday when typhoon Haiyan remnants arrive. Its almost like clock work when they get a typhoon in the Philippines we always get a huge snow storm 2-weeks later give or take a few days.

I hope they have the plows ready by then, and don’t forget to make a donation to a good charity for the children in the Philippines if one has some money to spare.

Junco – its a Shoppers Drug Mart

As for the Rob Ford situation this is nothing more than the slippery slope of making our democracy irrelevant. Ditto for the Senate scandal. It seems due process no longer applies.

The law says if one is convicted of a crime they can be removed from office. So far the Rob Ford accusations do not amount to a conviction. If he broke the law then why has he not been charged and had his day in court?

I suspect Rob Ford will sue and he will win because they can’t just remove the mayor on hear say… the law does apply and the city council has over reached their authority.

I suspect things will get even more nasty and the gong show will continue. What do they do if he wins re-election next October… ignore the vote again? Entitled elites can’t just make up the rules on the fly.

Dragonmaster wrote: “His personal life hadn’t affected his job as mayor.”

I would have to say that you do not have a full understanding of what the job as mayor entails.

A big one is public relations. His staff can take care of most shortcomings on the technical side of the job. However, even though some tried and were fired for it, they cannot force a Mayor to deal with the fundamental personality faults which are important as a leader of the largest city in Canada and very much a world class city.

“If he broke the law then why has he not been charged and had his day in court?”

Because, for those who are following the news, the police are assembling the evidence. They have to have enough to make stick.

When they do, they will come knocking on his door either at home or in the office and pull him out in the middle of what he happens to be doing at the time, even if he is entertaining the Mayor from Chicago at the latest fashionable restaurant.

Ford has lost his integrity, if he ever had any. Boot him.
Just curious what’s behind him after he’s gone. Be interesting.

His brother.

Toronto has a code of conduct for all members of Council, including the Mayor.

http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=c0f738379bac0410VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD

If someone does not meet it, then the individual can be censured. The integrity commissioner is responsible for reviewing the conduct of individuals when an issue arises. He/she has been asked to jump in on this.

from the code
=======================================
The key statements of principle that underline the Code of Conduct are as follows:

◾Members of Council shall serve and be seen to serve their constituents in a conscientious and diligent manner;

◾Members of Council should be committed to performing their functions with integrity and to avoiding the improper use of the influence of their office, and conflicts of interest, both apparent and real;

◾Members of Council are expected to perform their duties in office and arrange their private affairs in a manner that promotes public confidence and will bear close public scrutiny; and

◾Members of Council shall seek to serve the public interest by upholding both the letter and the spirit of the laws of the Federal Parliament and Ontario Legislature, and the laws and policies adopted by City Council

So, look at the third one in particular.

Harper and Ford have made Conservative politics in this country a complete joke!

http://www.thestar.com/opinion/commentary/2013/11/03/what_stephen_harper_and_rob_ford_have_in_common_siddiqui.html

Thanks Interceptor, I wonder how it will fare?
Seems like quite a bit of an overlap with Hart Drugs and SaveOn Foods…I guess we’ll see.

Maybe we need to develop a code of conduct for posting on this site. Points might include:

max number of posts per day
max number of post per topic
max number of words per post
relevance of post to news story posted
max number of times the same point can be repeated
max number of web references per week

Oh shucks, I think I maxed out ;-)

It’s called the Friday Free For All, so why don’t we just allow everybody to say freely whatever they want to say and never mind often they wish to post something?

….just an idea, of course!

Thanks Gus for quoting from the Code of Conduct! No wonder he is in trouble!

BBC World News had another news report on him tonight! It makes one cringe!

anothertside I like the effort gus puts into his posts and the links he provides. If you find him longwinded just scroll down the page.

Just a thought, Alberta’s premier was the best they have ever had but turned out to get drunk on his time off and make a spectacle of himself. But he did do a lot to get rid of the debt and people loved him for it, just like Ford.

Maybe Ford’s next step will be to jump into provincial politics like Klein. Both were mayors, had radio programs…the list goes on

wfs…..

Yes but did Klein have a bobblehead?

So mayor green said she would cut back 10% on all depts in city hall as one part of her election platform… Which she failed.. She now is charging me for the rain that falls on my roof.. Wtf.. This chick needs help. She should go on dragons den and see what they think of her…how to ruin a city.. Plans . She is doing a great job in running pg into the sewer.. Which Is where she needs to live to appreciate what we have in pg..

I agree with Hartly 2, gus is able to locate and post relevant materials that add to, and support the topics of discussion on this blog. His opinions are usually well “informed” and rooted in facts and truths, which means of course that I happen to agree with a lot of what he posts.

Don’t like his comments, don’t read them.
