Listen To A Book
Prince George, B.C. – Here’s a “novel” idea from the folks at the Bob Harkins Branch of the Prince George Public Library.
They’ve teamed up with Welcome PG to host the city’s first ever Human Library. Here’s what it’s all about. You go to the library between 1 and 3pm today and check out a Human Book for a 20-minute conversation. “Human Books” are members of the community who will talk about a host of subjects including career identity, criminality, religion, ethnicity and love.
These Human Books represent groups that face prejudice, stereotyping or racism. They could also represent occupations or hobbies that face prejudice. They will hold frank and open conversations about issues of concern, topics such as culture, ideology, disability, sexual orientation, gender or appearance.
The people lined up as Human Books include a female log home builder, an urban aboriginal, a former prisoner, a police officer, a former Jehovah’s Witness, a Christian, immigrants from several countries and a bride who became one through an arranged marriage. So you can see there will be no shortage of subjects to look into.
It goes 1-3pm today at the main branch of the library.
