Prince George, B.C.- Highway 16, about 33 kms west of Prince George, has been reopened to single lane alternating traffic.

Meantime, investigators continue to  search for  the cause of a  double fatal crash.

A  GMC suburban, and  Ford F450  truck collided just east of  the Isle Pierre  Road turn off this morning.

The two occupants of the suburban were  pronounced dead at the scene,  while the occupants of the Ford truck  were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Witnesses tell 250News  the roads were icy at the time of the morning crash, and that they believe  speed may have been a factor. Witnesses  have told  investigators the  suburban lost control on the highway and  hit the  Ford.

The investigation is now under the jurisdiction of the BC Coroners Service.

Names  have not yet been released.

Horrific news for these two people’s family and friends.

Anyone notice the reflection of the first responder’s legs on the highway? Plus 3 degrees Celsius yesterday, plus 2 degrees today on surfaces exposed to minus 24 degrees a week ago.

Slow down people. RIP.

The major cause is the lack of sanding, Or what i call the bottom line, Ever since maintenance of public roads was privatized , It is all about the bottom line not public safety.

Cole525: c’mon, give us a break. It was no better when Highways did it.

It looks like it was on a straight stretch. They usually sand the corners first. But hay, everyone drive like a maniac between PG and Vanderhoof. They should really twin the whole thing.

Cole525: Are you serious or just delusional? If you had a sandpaper road under you it would not make any difference to the basic laws of physics. Speed, weight and momentum are the real issues with traction being the wild card factor. If speed is not adjusted to the conditions no amount of sand will change the horrific outcome.I am the guy you are so quick to point your finger at and if you had to go out in the conditions I do when the only sand truck around is under my butt you might have a better understanding of grade school physics. Condolences to all involved including first responders.
