Friday, November 29, 2013 @ 2:57 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The  Province’s  public consultation on highway safety and  speed, will be coming to Prince George January 7th.

If you can’t wait for that event,  the Minister of Transportation will be holding a “Twitter  Town Hall on  December 17th  (7pm – 8 pm) to talk about speed limits and other  highway safety issues. To follow the conversation, or to take part,  it’s #BCSpeedReview on Twitter.

From now, until  January 24th,  the  consultation will be seeking  public  input on  safety and speed on  highways.  That input will be gathered through  open houses and  online opportunities.

The Province is reviewing speed limits on  longer stretches of rural highways to  make sure the  right limits are in place.  You are also being asked to  provide   your thoughts on  reducing the risk of wildlife –related crashes and  how the movement of slower vehicles can  be   improved.

A technical review is already underway and includes  a look at new technology and design of highways.

The review will also  seek input from police, ICBC, the Union of B.C. Municipalities, as well as other key stakeholders.  Recommendations are  expected to be ready in the spring.

You can find more information on the review, and  submit feedback  by clicking here.

The Prince George  open house is set for the 7th of January from 5-8 pm at the Ramada Hotel.

The only  other open house  taking place  in the north is set for Dawson Creek on January  the 8th, from 5-8 pm  at the Best Western hotel on Highway 2.

While the province is looking at speed limits…they should also look at mandatory snow tires in certain parts of our province. And yes I mean REAL snow tires (not just the so called “all seasons” with the pretty little snowflake on them)..

It is just commons sense that with our winter roads as hazardous as they can get, this measure of safety should be a no brainer to mandate. Congratulations to all of those people who think safety first and are already using REAL snow tires.

I think the biggest offenders are the rental car companies at the airport who are so uncaring about winter driving safety that not only don’t they put winter tires on all their cars…THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO CHARGE YOU AN EXTRA $10.00/DAY TO GET ONE OF THE VERY FEW THAT THEY WERE FORCED TO KEEP ON THEIR LOT BECAUSE OF CUSTOMER DEMAND.

Haha how about enforcing the current speed limits and safety laws? Its kinda hard to take a speed limit seriously on the hart when RCMP members, school buses, public transit buses, and damn near every other
vehicle is speeding up the bloody road.
What a joke
