Prince George, BC – A collision involving a small car and a semi-trailer truck has closed Highway 97 between McLeese Lake and Williams Lake.
North District RCMP Media Relations Officer, Constable Lesley Smith, says one person from the car was injured in the crash and has been transported to hospital in Williams Lake.
The highway is closed in both directions, approximately seven-kilometres south of McLeese Lake.
DriveBC expects to provide an update on when the route might re-open at 1:30pm.

I could not have read semi-trailer, could I have?
According to Wikipedia ..”A road tractor coupled to a semi-trailer is often called a semi-trailer truck or semi”
semi vs car…
car loses everytime.
Doesn’t sound like a head on if only one person injured in a small car. Must have been a rear ender probably in fog and driving on slush. Either the truck rear ended the slow moving car, or the car rear ended the slow moving truck driving to close behind, likely same kind of results and still classified as a ‘collision’?
Location at Mcleese Lake is a high pass area where rain often turns to sleet and then ice and slush.
Big problem with this weather is the plow trucks don’t put the blade all the way down and they leave 2″inches of slush on the road that will plug up the best of tires. Its worse than two feet of snow… anything is possible on slush.
The car was heading towards the truck and lost control. The transport truck ditched trying to get out of the car’s way. The car still got hit though.
I see… makes sense with these road conditions.
Skid recovery should be mandatory before anyone is allowed to drive in the north. Drivers licenses should be pulled until this simple act is mastered.. everyone should have to have it, it would certainly would make things safer for our big rigs that are on the highways or everyone for that matter.
or maybe even some winter road maintenance before accidents happen instead of after ……
I drive this stretch of road quite a bit. I am amazed that I don’t see a handful of burning twisted wrecks in the ditch every time I drive the hwy.97 from pg to wl. It seems that many drivers can’t or won’t judge road conditions with the high priority they should. Add to it the passing on double solid lines and blind corners and excessive speed we have a problem. How about a special task force of dozens of unmarked enforcement vehicles and tow trucks to remove the problem along with hitting them in the wallet. Add a meaningful education program to so we can eventually cut back on the heavy enforcement bandaid. Also it seems to me that passenger vehicles and large commercial trucks are incompatible on the road. What is the relationship between these in the context of all MVA on the HWY.
