Taseko Turns to Court for Ruling
Prince George, B.C.- Taseko , the company behind the proposed New Prosperity mine project southwest of Williams Lake, is calling on the courts for action in it’s battle over the environmental review panel’s report, which Taseko says was based on incorrect information.
Taskeo has filed for a judicial review, calling on the court to set aside the panel findings on the issues of seepage and water quality, and to declare that the Panel “failed in certain respects to comply with principles of procedural fairness”.
Taseko maintains Natural Resources Canada, (NRCan) made a major error when determining seepage rates from the tailings facility because the modeling used didn’t take into account a liner that would be part of the facility.
"Taseko had no choice but to file this application in order to comply with a 30 day time limit," says Taseko President and CEO Russell Hallbauer. "But we remain of the view that the federal government should allow the project to proceed to the next stage of detailed permit-level examination and if so the judicial review would not need to proceed," adds Hallbauer.
A judicial review would not prevent the Minister of Environment from approving the project.

Taseko, is officially in the middle of the dart board. Too bad, they have to do it this way.
Soon with the new investment agreements companies like Taseko will be able to bring a case like this before the quasi judicial tribunals of the investment agreements and have their case heard by foreigners in the industry that can rule in their favor; and they can just tell the BC government and the Canadian government to go and stuff it they will do it their way as they please… and Harper will have won and fulfilled his agenda to change Canada beyond what we can recognize through trade and investment agreements that relegate our Supreme Court to a civil court and the Canadian constitution to a second thought….
