B.C. Residents Generous in Wake of Haiyan
Prince George, B.C.- British Columbians have been quick to respond to those hit hardest by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.
The storm hit the Philippines on November 8th and in less than a month, B.C. residents, have donated $3.37 million to support the survivors. With the Province’s commitment to match the first $300,000, the total raised to date now sits at $3.67 million.
"The needs in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan are vast” says Kimberley Nemrava, provincial director, Canadian Red Cross B.C. and Yukon.
“Thanks to the generosity of British Columbians and government, Red Cross has been able to quickly and effectively provide vital supplies to those who need it most" adds Nemrava.
Nearly $200 thousand dollars worth of the donations have come from British Columbians making donations at BC Liquor Stores.
Typhoon Haiyan destroyed at least 80 thousand homes and left more than 600 thousand people displaced.

Telus and companies that hire telephone support staff in these places should be putting up large amount of funds also.
