Frosty Windshield? No Problem!

Vehicle collided with  a transit bus   – photo courtesy RCMP

Prince George, B.C. – RCMP  say it is a prime example of what can happen  when  you fail to clear frost from  your windshield.

Yesterday, officers were called to North Ospika and North Tabor

Officers arrived at the scene to find a Honda sedan wedged underneath a municipal transit bus.  The driver and lone occupant of the car was a little sore, but otherwise uninjured.  No one on the bus was hurt.

RCMP say the driver of the car did not properly remove frost from the windows of the car before driving.  He did not see the bus in front of him and as a result, rear-ended the bus.  The collision caused significant damage to the sedan and minimal damage to the bus.

The 22 year old male driver of the sedan was issued a Motor Vehicle Act violation ticket for Operating a Vehicle with Obstructed Windshield or Window.

The Prince George RCMP want to remind the public that failing to clear windows of frost and snow could result in serious injury or even death.  They are  calling on drivers to the time to ensure all your windows and mirrors are clear and you have visibility in all directions.

I thought long and hard about this, the weather, insurance implications, etc etc and all I can come up with is this:
IDIOT

I agree interceptor. Luckily, no one was hurt is this instance but that very easily could have been a child crossing the street on their way to school. Really, how hard is it to get up 5 minutes earlier and have time to clean off your windshield.

Ummm, wow. I agree with the moose, thank God it was a bus and not a child.

Isn’t this common sense! Where do these people keep their brains!

This driver should obviously run for local office!

In that smelly spot Honestjoe.

I love how everyone just hops on their high horse in a situation like this. I guarantee a large sum of you have had this kind of poor judgement when late for work. Whether it be a half-defrosted windshield or speeding.. It’s all dangerous. I’m not condoning it, but I’m not by any means convinced you are all a bunch of perfect drivers.

===================================

Okay, I’ll play. No, I have never hopped in my truck with my windshield or windows so obstructed that I could not see a BUS in front of me as I was driving down the road.

I’m a perfect driver!

There are actually still some people around who are trying to excuse this idiot! What if he had not seen their child which happen to stray from the sidewalk unto the street and got run over by someone who was too lazy to clear his windshield and failed to see a bus – of all things?

Signed: Low Horse.

Kayc, people who plan ahead are not late for work, when you’re late for work a lot, you don’t have a job to go to.
This fool is an example of a poor driver who puts others at risk in the same way these fools who keep using their cell phones while driving think they’re good drivers. Got a 15 yr old coming up for a driver license. Am I going to teach this 15 yr old? Absolutely not!
He will attend a defensive driver course as well as a driving school, don’t want any of my bad habits to rub off on him.
I’m sick of lazy drivers, the ones who don’t clear the snow totally off their vehicles, the ones who cross the center line on curves, the rolling stops, people who don’t look or signal when they’re changing lanes, who go right to the curb lane onto a four lane street turning left.
As far as I’m concerned, it should be law that a new driver is not taught by parents but has to attend a defensive driver course and be taught to drive by professionals, not some parent who thinks they know how to drive.
This incident above is one of those that the constable probably thought this might have been a driving without due care charge, but went with what they did. This was a bus, it’s big and the driver didn’t see it. Children are smaller, hope the driver learns from this incident.

You people are relentless. You think hitting a bus isn’t a lesson learned? His peripheral vision was obstructed by the partially defrosted windshield and sunlight and trust me he’s fully aware of his mistake. He did take a complete drivers course and these are not habits learned from his parents. I hope patronizing others made you feel better.

—————–

You’re defending a guy who drove into a BUS? This is not a mistake, he deliberately failed to clear his windshield. I’m glad no one was hurt but this is the kind of stupidity that should cost him his license for a bit. Cars are not toys.

Kayc sounds like she is his mother. I’m just glad that it ended the way it did. It could have been MUCH worse!
I hope he DID learn his lesson because I don’t really want to meet him on the road if he drives like that.

So silly of people to quickly go to that “THINK OF THE CHILDREN” instinct. How common are children randomly in the middle of the street in December? are they orphans?? and how common are buses around town… in the middle of the street… you would think so right……… I’m not saying what the driver did was smart. It’s the fact that people are coming up with the worst scenarios to justify insulting this person as if they have all the right answers and solutions (Grizzly1). Get over yourself. Sorry but this isn’t where we hand out Parent of the Year awards. It was an accident. People have busy lives. It’s the holiday season. We don’t know the driver. If anything I would hope no one got hurt.

Kayc you seem to know enough about this individual…

I am thinking you might be his parent, am I right? If not it’s very obvious you are close to this person.

No he didn’t learn a lesson, a good lesson would be a loss of driving privileges for a good six months. As per your own words it could very well have been a person who got hit or killed.

Perhaps instead of wasting time here defending him you could use that time to perhaps (gasp) take charge and modify his behavior.

Naw didn’t think so…..

It’s easier to blame everything else but the driver as per your own words.

I am LOLing at that. I don’t have a clue where you live but here in PG at that time of day there are very very many kids in the middle of the street, many more kids than buses.

Or maybe you live somewhere where all of the kids every single one are able to make it to school via teleportation.

In the real world where the rest of us live there are quite a few kids who actually walk to school and get this they might have to cross a street or two to get there.

I would wager you that at that time of day or any time of day there are more pedestrians on the streets than buses.

Oh wait a sec, I don’t recognize your name here. Are you the driver of the car in the photo?

It’s my brother. Good work Sherlock Holmes I wasn’t trying to hide it. I know he has his faults but none of you have the right to judge him. It was a poor judgment call and we all have made them.

Whether it is flying a plane or driving a car, most of us operate using VFR, maybe this guy thought he was certified for IFR?

hahaha actually a majority of children have rides home during the winter. yeah there are a select few children walking home but no there is not “very very many kids” in the middle of the street. I never made an absolute comment? And when children get hit by cars its usually because the driver drives off the road onto the sidewalk. I don’t know what incest-bred children you have that would step off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic but my point is it’s a rare occurence. This driver clearly had enough peripherals to stay in his lane but he hit a bus straight ahead… buses drive slower than the rest of the traffic. Use logic to understand how ridiculous you sound coming up with these scenarios and making over the top judgements

Kayc,

when it hits the press he is going to be judged and rightfully so, maybe you could take HIS responsibility upon yourself instead of blaming it on the sun and everything else.

Maybe tomorrow you could get up extra early and start his car and scrape his windows and wake him up early enough to get to work safely.

I bet you wouldn’t even give it a go for 2 weeks before you said screw this do it yourself. Consider your self lucky it ended the way it did, he may have well scooted out in front of something that may well have ended his life

You drunk bro?

You didn’t address the 1 simple question posed to you. Now tell us all again how people get to where they go without crossing streets.

kayc, that’s nice you want to defend your brother but he did hit a bus. Believe me, this ridiculing of your brother is the least of your worries; he could have been badly hurt.

caribou7, last Sunday my partner and I saw a man walking down the middle of the street. I’m guessing he either has dementia or was stoned out of his mind or drunk or something. He walked for a long way down the middle of the street so he could have been run over.

Maybe he was parked in one of the city’s “no idling” zones…..

I’m sure the young driver will be more careful next time he is behind the wheel of an automobile, so lesson learned. Thank goodness no one was injured. Hope no one was late for work or school due to a bus out of commission.

I wonder about some of the comments on this forum, they are downright insulting, to others. Would those people be as bold if they were face to face?
metalman.

I would metalman.

I would and I have and I might get my ass beat for it but not so far.

Just to be clear could you post up a quote of something insulting.

Better yet can you tell us all just exactly what it is in the posts that insults you?

You seem to be insulted, but you can’t quote it. so just what the hell is so insulting to you?

it was an accident, no one was hurt… move on.

He, or She, screwed up. Let all the smartest, bestest, drivers get out there today and drive just below the posted speed limit in the fast lane and slow down so that we can drive beside the next car while we are trying to merge onto the highway. I wonder how many miles you pro-drivers put on your car a year. I would venture to guess that high mile drivers see a lot of stuff on there drive that others would not like, but have become common driver learned habits. I wonder how many miles[km] do people drive ,who comment about driving, drive per year. Some know the driving safety manual by memory but are terrible behind the wheel and are great commenters about others.

I wish that we were all perfect! But we are not! I am sure that this young lad will have learnt from his mistake.. What if’s?, he did not hit a bus an arrived to where ever he was gong safely,…

Maybe his heater is broken and his car was going in for repair..

“It was an accident.”

It was the bus driver’s fault! He should have moved out of the way when he saw a car with a frosted over windshield approaching in his rear view mirror!

LOL! and OMG!

This site used to be called “Opinion250”. It was and still is for giving opinions on the news stories of the day. Judgement is your word. I only see opinions.
In my opinion, the guy used incredibly poor judgement, and could very well have hurt someone, himself included. Some people do not have enough common sense to be driving. We all see examples of this daily. We all have opinions of these drivers. Get over it.

I don’t think driving with frosted windows was smart and I’m not going to defend it, but I’m not going to join the mob and harshly criticise. We are all living in glass houses when it comes to driving, no matter how perfect we all believe ourselves to be.

As someone was said, no one was hurt and a lesson was learned. Time to move on.

Could have run into the back of a grader this morning because of the sun shining in my eyes. Luckily, I had a clear windshield. lol!

Can’t possibly imagine where the grader was going. Must be a city worker :)
