Christmas Counterattack Underway
Prince George, B.C. – North District RCMP join the rest of Canada this Saturday, in the official kick-off to the Christmas Counterattack Impaired Driving Campaign.
While the campaign is currently under way in British Columbia, the nation is recognizing this very important enforcement campaign in a one day collective enforcement event. The RCMP is making impaired driving enforcement a national priority; stepping up enforcement efforts across the country to stop impaired drivers.
Impaired driving is a major cause of death and injuries. It has immense costs and devastating effects in our communities that are entirely preventable. There has been significant progress throughout Northern B.C. to reduce impaired driving incidents, with a 46% decline in impaired driving fatal crashes.
Police say they will have proactive road checks, which will include rolling road checks “to enhance the element of surprise”. Police advise drivers “should be aware enforcement will be focused with few warnings.”
Alcohol can affect different people differently, depending on factors such as diet fatigue and prescription drugs, can all play a role in how alcohol affects you.
It is possible to be considered impaired even if you have a Blood Alcohol Content below 0.08.
Police remind drivers that alcohol is not the only thing that can cause impairment, driving after using drugs, even prescription drugs, is just as dangerous as drinking and driving. Drug Recognition Experts will be used in the enforcement campaigns throughout the province and can determine if you’re under the influence of a drug and you can be charged with drug-impaired driving.

Harbinger either / or since they are in their own vehicle but a waterproof jacket with a hood might be useful ;)
The cop who had his uniform taken away the other day made a good point. At what level can they find you impaired from marijuana if there has never been a proper test for accurately testing the level of THC in a persons system?
Drug recognition expert is more likely a profiler that uses lifestyle discrimination to make determinations that are subject to no checks and balances through third party verification.
At least with alcohol they can test for a verifiable level that relates to a scientific method of impairment. A drug recognition expert on the other hand can issue a ticket for tired eyes and classify it as potential drug use with nothing but his expert opinion as a metric for the law. Its a slippery slope and better testing methods should be found other than simply profiling lifestyle clues.
Eagleone, if someone is high on marijuana, or most other drugs for that matter, it is isn’t all that hard to see.
but you do make a point
I would like to mention that in my opinion texting and driving is just as dangerous as drinking and driving. Am I alone on this ?
