Monday, December 9, 2013 @ 9:42 AM

Prince George, B.C. – The Alaska Highway at Wonowon is now open to single alternating traffic, following a closure that lasted  nearly 12 hours.

Last evening  around 7:30, a  tanker truck hauling 60,000 litres of gasoline, rolled over into a ditch.

As a precaution,  an area of 300 metres around the  roll over site was  evacuated.  The evacuation included a camp with 200 workers, a gas  station and few residences.   All the of the evacuees  spent the  night in a local  school.

A HazMat team  arrived on scene early this morning to assess the situation.

All of the workers have since been allowed back to their homes and businesses.

The Ministry of the Environment will assess any damage that may have occurred to the environment as a result of this incident.
