Snow Fall Warning In Effect In Prince George Region

Tuesday, December 10, 2013 @ 9:40 AM

Prince George, BC – A heavy snow fall is expected to hit the region over the next two days . A snow fall warning has been issued for the area south to Quesnel and north to the Pine Pass and east to the Alberta border . A total of 10 centimetres is expected to fall this afternoon and a further 10 tomorrow.

Thursday we will receive yet more snow, the amount has not yet been calculated . Friday we are expected to have a break from the shovel , but that is replaced with snow again on Saturday.

The snowfall is the result of an intense Pacific frontal system moving in from the Gulf of Alaska combining with a cold Arctic airmass over the BC Interior.

The City outside workers served 72 hour strike notice yesterday . City officials are attending meetings today to finalize essential services in the event that the city workers walk off the job. To what extent snow removal is on the table is not known.

Now we get to see whether snow removal is or is not labeled an “essential service” and how that’s dealt with. Should be pretty lulzworthy. Best case scenario: Union workers get angered by a poor essential service arbitration result and the plow truck drivers refuse to work. I would have to make sure to stock extra underwear because I’ll be peeing myself laughing on a regular basis in that case.

I’m basking in sunshine. No snow here.
Any snow fall under 6″ is a skiff!!
Up to a foot is normal and expted every winter.
Snow fall wornings for the most part news fillers and serve little practical purpose.

It’s winter. Snowfall warnings in PG are a joke. We get what we get when we get it. Just like 100 years ago.

Snowfall warnings may be useful for those who did not grow up in an area that normally has significant snowfall, every winter. Otherwise, I (actually!) agree with Gus’ comment.
metalman.

bylaws enforcement already seems to be on strike, or is doing nothing their normal mode of operation.

Thanks Gus…good comment. A snow warning for a possible 20 centimeters (7.7/8″)of snow….are we turning into a bunch of powder puffs? :(
