Booze Sales In Liquor Stores? You Say Yes!
Prince George, B.C.- The move to update B.C.’s liquor policies took another step this week, with the Premier announcing support for a set of 12 key recommendations from the recently submitted report on proposed changes.
While offering support for a reduction in red tape for licensing, promotion of B.C. products and producers and allowing the sale of certain products at locations like farmers’ markets and secondary tasting rooms, she didn’t come right out and say there was support for selling liquor in grocery stores.
We asked you if you thought grocery stores should be allowed to sell beer and wine, and you said Yes!
Although our poll is not scientific, the results show 69% (2320) voting in favour of grocery store booze sales, while 31% (1040) say no.
The sale of alcohol in grocery stores was one of the more than 70 recommendations in the recently completed B.C. Liquor Policy review, which is expected to be publicly released in the New Year, once Cabinet has had an opportunity to review all of the recommendations.

Your title is a little mixed up…:-)
I think the poll was okay, you got my opinion, but I feel the Victoria yoyo’s have already decided this issue for us…it may not be on paper but I think it is a done deal.
just like the pipelines are…..
it is just a matter of time…and getting them to work…
Right or wrong that is my opinion anyways.
Our government has been steadily eroding the income made from government liquor stores while crying poverty.
Booze in grocery stores will be a gift to Jim Pattison and other rich supporters of the “Liberal” (sic) regime.
You beat me to it sardonic. I was going to say “follow the money”. Jimmy P donated $208,000 to the Liberals in 2010 via Great Pacific Capital Corporation.
When I saw that the Liberals will only let major grocery stores sell alcohol, I started to smell a rat. Why can convenience stores sell cigarettes, but not alcohol?
Been years since been in a liquor store../ do they not sell booze there anymore??/ THe heading of this article suggests “no”..
Really, its going to be one stop shopping for camping weekends.
I have always found it interesting that grocery stores in town cannot sell booze but rural stores can including spirits.
The government has such a lock on liquor pricing in this province (because it is such a cash cow), it’s hard to see how much would change if grocery stores were allowed to sell booze other that having another point of sale. You certainly aren’t going to see better prices than your typical private liquor store now.
“I have always found it interesting that grocery stores in town cannot sell booze but rural stores can including spirits.” Technically those aren’t convenience stores selling liquor but rather they are an outlet for the BCLCB, the same as their post offices are simply Canada Post outlets.
No to grocery chains selling liquor, let the little guy make the money. Plus that employs more people.
Let the little guy make the money? Like the craft breweries and wineries?
Huh they look like grocery/concience stores to me that sell booze.
