Safety Tips As Shopping Crunch Hits

Saturday, December 21, 2013 @ 5:46 AM

Prince George, BC – With just four shopping days left, RCMP are reminding busy buyers to take some safety precautions as they go about their last minute preparations…

To avoid getting scrooged by criminals in the final retail run-up to the Christmas, police say there are some simple rules to follow to put a damper on thieves and pickpockets:

  • Don't withdraw more money than you need from ATMs.  Police say be aware of your surroundings and take note of anyone following you, as thieves lurk in parking lots around financial institutions. (photo at right courtesy BC RCMP)
  • Men should carry their wallets in their front pockets, as opposed to back pockets or jacket pockets.
  • Women should carry their purses close to their body, but shouldn't wrap the straps around themselves.
  • Never leave your purchases unattended, even for a short period of time.

In addition, RCMP say parking is always a problem when it comes to the holiday season.  They advise to park under lighting and as close to entrances and exits as possible, and to place all of your purchases in the trunk, rather than the backseat, to avoid drawing attention to your vehicle.

Police also say it's good practise to have your keys ready when you approach your vehicle to avoid juggling parcels while you search for them, which delays getting inside.

Or you can be smart and buy early I was done all my Xmas shopping end of November and been sitting back and watching the panickers in full panic mode very entertaining

I’m with you Dearth , this system has worked for years

First time EVER, I finished 4 days ago. What the hell to do now? What’s that you say? Eat+drink to excess? I’m on it like a fat kid on a Smartie

OR LEGALIZE HANDGUNS SO GRANNY OR YOUR DAUGHTER HAS SOME WAY TO PROTECT HERSELF BUT OUR SYSTEM WOULD RATHER PROTECT A CRIMINAL FIRST

Don’t forget to wear a helmet.

“Don’t forget to wear a helmet.”

Great idea with snow and ice covering outside pavement, curbs and gutters, and stairs without handrails.

Washington is an open carry state. Have you ever heard of someone shooting a pickpocket or purse snatcher?

BTW, make sure that if you have a carry permit, that the gun is not in the purse. ;-)
