Cougars Fall in Victoria.
After an 11 day break between games, the Prince George Cougars returned to action on Friday night in Victoria, and were rudely welcomed by the Royals. Axel Blomqvist scored three goals, and Branden Magee and Steven Hodges each had four points en route to an 8-1 Victoria victory. Jordan Tkatch had the lone goal in response for the Cougars.
Axel Blomqvist opened the game's scoring just 2:14 into the first period off a centering pass from Brandon Magee. Just over three minutes later Blomqvist struck again to make it 2-0. Branden Magee and Steven Hodges assisted on both goals. Magee then got into the act offensively with his 13th of the season, and by the 8:21 mark of the first period it was 3-0 for Victoria who outshot the Cougars 10-7.
Cougars forward Chase Witala left the game mid-way through the first period with what would later be classified as an upper-body injury.
Blomqvist sealed his hat trick at 5:46 of the second and the Royals were far from done. Jack Palmer, Jack Walker and Austin Carroll all added tallies for the Royals and by the 17:54 mark of the second it was 7-0 for Victoria. Blomqvist wouldn't finish the game though. He was checked into the boards by Martin Bobos at around the midway point of the second, and did not take another shift.
3:48 into the third, Steven Hodges grabbed Victoria's final goal of the game off a rebound. Jordan Tkatch would then answer a few moments later on a power play to give the Cougars their lone goal of the game.
Prince George outshot Victoria 18-8 in the third, and 37-36 in the game, but could only solve goaltender Coleman Vollrath once. The Cougars finished the game one-for-three on the power play but killed off all three of their minor penalties.
With the loss, the Cougars record nows sits at 14-19-2-3 while Victoria improves to 24-13-0-2. These teams will square off once again tomorrow night in Victoria.
