Prince George, B.C.- An incident this morning, which forced the University Hospital into lockdown, is now case of a sudden death.
At approximately 10:00 this morning, the Prince George RCMP attended the University Hospital of Northern BC after receiving a report of a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased in the hospital a short time later.
A perimeter was set up around the area of 13th Avenue and Lethbridge Street, where the gun shot occurred. This location is near the Emergency Room entrance to the hospital.
The Detachment's Forensic Identification Section and Police Dog Service were called in to assist.
At this time, investigators believe the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and that there are no public safety concerns. The investigation is continuing in partnership with the BC Coroners Service.
The 66 year old deceased male was not from Prince George.

That conclusion I would not have thought of! Very sorry to hear of it. I wonder if they did not find the gun initially? (maybe it slid under a car or something.)
Or maybe he was in possession of a firearm but was shot by someone else, who may have still been at large in the area, or hiding in a strangers home holding a family hostage, or attempting a getaway by stealing a vehicle from the hospital parkade, or…..
I’m glad the Police practiced due diligence and didn’t jump to conclusions. Condolences to the family of this troubled man.
Typically it’s not the police who jump to conclusions it is the general public and I can tell you with certainy that without knowledge of the incident the rumours were flying hot and heavy and a lot of them dealt with negative responses to the police because people are predetermined to blame authority before they know what is going on
Over 80% of firearms deaths in Canada are suicides. Very unfortunate so many people see this as the only way out.
This time of year is not the most happy time for over 47% of the population. So sorry for this man’s passing. Rip
I cannot even imagine what was going on in this man’s life for him to think this was the only option. RIP.
rest in peace…
If you’ve never been alone at Christmas, you will never understand the loneliness. Trust me, been there about 4 days ago, and ain’t pleasant.
