Victoria, B.C.- What's in a name? Difficult to answer, but according to B.C. Vital Statistics, some names were more popular than others in 2012 when it came to newborns.
The stats show, the most popular name for girls born in 2012 was Olivia, while the most popular for baby boys was Ethan.
Other top selections for girls were Emma, Sophia, Emily and Ava. Rounding out the top five for boys were Liam, Lucas, Mason and Logan.
The most popular names in 2011 were Liam and Emma.
Pop culture also plays an apparent role when babies are named. In 2012, there were 71 named Justin, 70 named Taylor, 35 named Khloe and 30 named Bella.
There were 44,270 births in B.C. in 2012, up from 43,991 in 2011.
Only names whose frequency occurs five or more times are listed.

Government is a lot freeer with baby names that with personal car plates…
?? the government doesn’t really have a say in what you name your baby. Unless it’s offensive.
I am thoroughly disappointed that “Festus” for a boy’s name, and “Olga” for a girl’s name, did not make the cut :-(
One could reason the name “Adolph” not being a very popular boy’s name as well.
For all our our proclaimed multiculturalism, I’m surprised that a non-caucasian name didn’t make the list. Also surpised to see Isla on the top 10 – never heard of that name before!
Adolf? I believe that Iosif had even less of a chance! *

No problem, it’s an easy mistake to make – but in Austria it is/was usually written like that.
