Red Nose Ready for the Big Night

Tuesday, December 31, 2013 @ 3:57 AM

Prince George, B.C.- Tonight is the final night for Operation Red Nose, and it is expected to be  the one night with the greatest demand.

New Year’s eve will see  between 25 and 30 volunteer road teams ready to  provide safe rides home for New Year’s  revellers.

The service is available  between 9 tonight and 4 a.m.

“After looking at numbers for previous years, we expect to provide between 220 and 250 rides home" says Operation Red Nose  spokesperson Andrea Johnson.

Operation Red Nose is a free, designated driving service available during the holiday season that is organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako in partnership with ICBC and the RCMP.

Anyone who needs a ride home can call 250-962-RIDE (7433) and a team of volunteers will pick you up and drive your vehicle home too.

So far, after eight nights, 793 safe rides home have been provided, and the service is on track to break the 1,000-ride mark for the fourth consecutive year.

In 2012,   there were  1,084 rides provided.  In 2011, the number was  1,035, and in 2010,  there were 1,123 safe rides provided making 2010 the  best year  in the 15 years the service has been  offered in Prince George.

Thank you for your time and patience, be safe tonight and see you next year =D

Ah, New Years haven’t been the same since the big Y2K scare back in ’99. Back then, the taxis were still picking up fares at six or seven in the morning from the night before!
