Nasty out there, if it freezes, this is going to be slick
No doubt the weather and poor road conditions will be contributing factors to this accident.
The amount of rain we have been getting is unprecedented… hmmm… I wonder why?
At any rate, this is definitely one of the most tragic holidays for vehicle accidents in many years. I hope no lives were lost in this latest accident.
Global warming…hahaa
Just arrived in kitimat ,drove out this morning from mud river.Went through 3 seasons driving on the highway
Extreme cold wave in 69% of the country, I wonder why?
Extreme cold record’s breaking in the states, I wonder why?
IPCC dramatically reducing their projected warming claims, I wonder why?
Climate change scientist’s had to be rescued from sea ice which has been expanding for thirty years, I wonder why?
Peaple#1 you really should look beyond your front door.
Might be the sun.
Haven’t heard of any cool names for this winter. El Nino, La Nina, El Raino……
I think it is you who has to step outside and look beyond your front door.
GLOBAL means global ….. not Prince George, not BC, not Maritimes, not America, not the northern or southern hemisphere.
I have already posted that the AREA of the ice field in Antarctica was predicted to INCREASE as the polar cap starts to diminish in VOLUME. That is exactly what is happening!!
Here is a report from Australia … you know, one of those other continents that make up the GLOBAL part of the earth and climate change.
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=11180688
5:30 AM Friday Jan 3, 2014
After a year which broke all Australian records, 2014 is already shaping up as another year of extreme weather, with major cities beginning to feel the heat.
Temperatures in some inland areas have been nudging 50°C amid warnings of catastrophic bushfire danger.
The hot weather baking parts of Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory is expected to intensify in the coming days, with temperatures in central and southwestern Queensland forecast to hover in the high 40s – the state’s worst heatwave for more than 50 years.
==============================
So, get off your high horse of skepticism for a while and feel the heat. ;-)
from Argentina one year ago
January 5, 2013 â ARGENTINA â A blistering heat wave, power outages and a fuel shortage added up Tuesday to a second day of hellish conditions in Greater Buenos Aires, home to about a quarter of Argentinaâs 40 million people. Amid a plethora of recommendations by the authorities on how to deal with the soaring temperatures, which on Tuesday were expected to reach 36 C (97 F), people took refuge in any shade they could find to get out of the blazing heat of the Argentine summer.
âThe city of Buenos Aires (with its 2.8 million inhabitants) has a summer average of 90 deaths per day but, for example, during the heat wave at the beginning of 2001 it went up to 250 deaths in a single day
Added to the suffocating heat, the climatic phenomenon La Niña has spread drought across vast areas of the Buenos Aires and La Pampa provinces, the richest agricultural region of a country that is one of the worldâs top grain exporters. Sources in the farming sector believe that the lack of rain could continue until March, with the consequent loss of soybean and corn crops.
http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpress.com/2013/01/05/blistering-heatwave-grips-argentina-power-outages-gas-shortages-reported-from-increased-demand
Climate change ….. from hot to cold to dry to wet ….. it affects the entire globe …. and, most importantly, it affects each region differently ….. and, from the looks of it, not consistently.
Maybe we need to create some stratospheric high “walls” to keep our region more stable than the rest we share this globe with …. ;-)
Gus, ya couldn’t have said it any better…
“GLOBAL means global ….. not Prince George, not BC, not Maritimes, not America, not the northern or southern hemisphere.”
Now take some of your own advice and do just that. How about this?
Coldest temperature EVER recorded on earth was in 2010 in Antartica at -135.8F!! Then in 2012 another low at -135.3F.
Weather changes. It always has, and always will and the shills trying to guilt us into thinking it’s because we drive our cars to work and run our furnaces in the winter time ought to be ashamed of themselves.
Back to the topic at hand, today I had to spend a fair bit of time driving around the city. The roads were awful, and it was quite tiring trying to stay so focused on driving.
One would think that the city would have stuck every available plow and grader on the roads while they were this wet and soft instead of waiting until the temperature drops 10 or more degrees and they have to try and plow glare ice.
I was driving around to several places in the downtown area as well as the west side of the bowl. Left at 12:30 and came back around 4:30 …..went to 4 places, had to park the car in all four and walk into and out of destinations.
I did not see any snow clearing vehicles nor any sign of snow clearing equipment.
I do not know where they were.
One needed to wear duck boots to maneuver the parking spaces and streets and sidewalks. Hit the bottom of my car on several occasions transitioning from roadway to parking lot via what looked to be a puddle that turned out to be potholes or whatever on paved road and sidewalk and lane.
This City is not prepared. This City does not care. This City does not know how to keep streets relatively safe for travel by vehicles and pedestrians.
Why did the core review not go into that kind of assessment – the work that the City is responsible for, the standard that the City should meets in doing that work, and the standard to which the City actually does that work.
No need to beat one’s chest about how great it core review was. It wasn’t!!!!!
And the first indication that it would not be was when the consultants from KPMG failed to identify the background education and experience they had in matter dealing with the actual operations of a City. The report was total bean counter BS.
At least when KPMG does quality audits in the forestry industry they have Foresters on the audit team.
watch a movie called “Chasing Ice” on netflix, gives you an idea what damage humans have done in the last 10 years for a bigger bank statement then 90% (ish) of the population. i’ve said it before, our future generation never gonna forgive or forget us, if we haven’t already caused our own extinction then nature had intended.
Jetstream …. you have your mind made up.
My very simple observation is that you do not have the faintest clue what is meant by climate change and more importantly the current global warming trend we are still in.
To understand that you should do a bit of research to find out how annual mean global temperatures are actually measured. Suffice it to say that for the last 30 to 40 years, we have been using satellite systems coupled with older ground stations which record temperatures. The two are compared to ensure that the satellite data is “ground truthed”
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3
Here is the graph of annual mean land-ocean temperature records since 1880.
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.A2.gif
You donât like it? What? Me worry? It is what it is.
Like everything else in the world, some people see it, others do not.
So, wonder how the crash situation is doing. Does not sound too good for those involved.
I watched “Chasing Ice” as well, a good documentary.
One has to wonder who the “shills” are in jetstream’s comment; “shills trying to guilt us into thinking it’s because we drive our cars to work and run our furnaces in the winter time”.
Hmm… reputable agencies and organizations like NASA, the US EPA, and NOAA? Yup, all those billions of dollars being spent on climate monitoring and global climate change preparation and management are a waste of time and resources.
If we collectively vote in global warming deniers like seamutt, jetstream and Harper, as our government leaders, then we don’t deserve to exist as a species!
NG, please refrain from preaching. Life goes on. I may be next tomorrow, so please let me enjoy it while I can.
There is virtually nothing that I or 7 some billion others on this planet could have done about those deaths. Those who are left here will continue on till our time arrives to depart.
Sometimes people have a bit of trouble with the reality of life.
Moving from Global climate change to Global death rates, I would like to mention that globally there are roughly:
1.78 deaths per second
107 deaths per minute
6,390 deaths per hour
153,000 deaths per day, or
56 million deaths per year
During my lifetime so far, there have been around 4 billion deaths.
At some time in the future, everyone posting on here and everyone living in PG will be included in those numbers.
So, with respect to those two deaths, they will affect the people immediately associated with them. That is the way it is. It will not affect someone trying to beat the heat in Australia at this time, nor, if truth be known, will it affect most people on here, except for some, like me, who might reflect once more for a moment about life and what it means to each one of us.
But we do not write too much about that here, do we?
NG one could argue that the increase in vehicle accidents, and deaths, are a result of global warming induced mild winter weather.
Example: everyone, except for the lunatic fringe, understands that the increase in wood dust from cutting beetle killed dry wood, resulted in those sawmill explosions, making the deaths of 4 sawmill workers global warming related!
No global warming, cold winters keeping the MPB population in check, no MPB epidemic, no beetle killed wood, no dry beetle killed dry wood saw dust, no explosions.
http://www.care2.com/causes/sawmill-explosions-linked-to-climate-change.html
So NG… maybe all these vehicle accidents, all occurring during wet mild winter weather, may be global warming related?
Oh Gus I think it is you that is clueless on climate change. So are you denying the climate has never changed before. It might be news to you but the climate is always changing. You seem to have the ability to cruise and pull information off the net but are lacking serious skills in bullshit detecting.
I was pointing out to people that well it seemed warm out side his front door and a good portion of the world was rather cool.
Oh about the term climate change, well it started out as global warming, that did not work out so well. Then the grant seeking warmers tried climate disruption and since globally disruption has been declining that did not work out well. Now the term climate change is used. Amazing what a confused lot.
As for the Antarctic ice volume and sea ice has been increasing for thirty years. The only melting has been on the peninsula and if you bother to look on a map it sticks way out of the main body of Antarctica.
I say again The IPCC has lowered their temperature projections big time. They are supposed to be the authority used by warmers.
Oh by the way google Peru cold, Europe cold, England with no summer.
Those Australian temperatures nothing new, very few records broken mostly media hype.
I was down under in October and on the 16th it was minus 2 outside Canberra and a week later our morning flight out had to be de-iced. There are two types of weather in Australia, its either burning or flooding in most parts.
The satellite data shows that the summer of 2012-2013 was close to ordinary, compared with the entire satellite record going back to 1979. Not a record. Not even extreme?
According to UAH satellite measurements summer in early 2013 was not a record. Not even close. In Australia.
What a great conversation. Here are some thoughts.
Slushy roads are when people die becaue the vehicel can’t stay on the road.
Global warming due to C02 is likely, but somethings you didn’t know about C02 are
1. Trees are growing (WAY!) faster than they did 30 years ago. http://www.naturalnews.com/027779_carbon_dioxide_forests.html
2. There has been a huge increase if forest cover due to trees using less water because of more C02.
http://www.sci-news.com/othersciences/geophysics/science-carbon-dioxide-desert-greening-01209.html
3. Food yields are way up because of more C02 in the atmospher.
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-01-02/cheaper-hanoi-pork-shows-crops-ease-world-food-cost-commodities.html
4. C02 has been decreasing for 500 million years and would have to increase 10 times to get to a point where it would reflect average conditions when life really started to become complex.
5. Climate change is exactly what we need to increase primary productivity. Have a nice night.
Gus- “Like everything else in the world, some people see it, others do not.”
I did see some snow removal equipment working in South Fort George today.
Seamut(t) wrote: “So are you denying the climate has never changed before”
Really, how many times have your written that and how many times have I answered that?
I am no longer giving you the benefit of the doubt. Enjoy.
Well, that was one of the places I did not go to, middle finger. At least all 7 pieces of equipment, minus the blower, are working somewhere. LOL.

Climate change is what we need to start a grape wine industry here.
5 years ago a climatologist from the BC museum in Victoria predicted that in 50 years PG would have a grape wine industry.
Only 45 years left to go. Buy up those properties on south facing slopes with sandy soils, your kids will thank you one day and bring a token of the annual harvest to your tombstones. ;-)

That was an interesting site, cupricity.

Thanks- it might explain a few things. “Less moose” or less vision in cut blocks.
Once cant help but think of the good old days when you could hunt a block for years after they logged. Now it seems like every place grows up in no time at all.
All that brush fools the experts who do helicopter surveys and foils the “hunters” who don’t leave the truck. All those wolves have to be eating something…
My condolences to those who died on the highway.
Condolences to the family
