Cooler Temperatures Expected In PG
Prince George, B.C. – We’ll see a bit of a trend toward cooler temperatures in the coming week in the Prince George area, but it will be nothing like the numbing cold weather hitting central and eastern Canada with windchills in the minus 40's and 50's.
Environment Canada’s forecast for Prince George looks like this:
Today: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 7. A few clouds tonight. Low minus 18.
Sunday: Cloudy with a high of minus 9, low minus 11.
Monday: Cloud, 40% chance of flurries. High minus 8, low minus 9.
Tuesday: Cloud, 30% chance of flurries. High minus 4, low minus 6.

Nothing like back east.
I drove along Tabor between 1st and 15th this morning. One older gentleman was walking on the street with a cane. The reason was very obvious. Although the sidewalks had been plowed before the colder weather came, they were obviously not in any shape for anyone like that to walk on. There was no continuation across intersection since the side streets had not been plowed yet.
He was walking on that area just to the right of the travelled vehicle section which has fine crushed ice with some sand/dirt in it that gives it that bit of brownish colour.
Ist Avenue between Tabor and Foothills is a bus route. Neither the street nor the sidewalk has been plowed. The road has a low spot near Claxton which was a rutted slush pond while the temps hovered around freezing. It is now frozen and anyone with a low car could tear their undersides out unless they make sure they keep the wheels out of the ruts and ride the high parts.
I saw 2 sanding trucks out. So, they are working today. Don’t know if anyone is plowing. Doubt it. I have rarely seen snow clearing equipment (which it actually isn’t – it is road grading and loading equipment) out on weekends.
I suspect they are now waiting for the warmer temps expected by the end of the week …… when we could get a few more flowsnurries.
Because of the backslope sidewalks ate about useless anyhow.
Backslopes are an interesting phenomenon.
In my opinion it has its origin from 2 dimensional thinkers.
The fact is that most sidewalks slope along their length. Very few are dead flat.
By keeping them away from the curb, none of them have to be flat along their length. In fact, it would be easier to store snow along the edge of the road if suburban sidewalks were removed from the edge of the road.
I suspect that those who put light standards within a couple of feet of the curb, intended to put sidewalks a few feet away from the curb – less danger of being splashed by a car and less danger of getting too close to traffic.
Almost all the sidewalks in our area are sloping heavily towards the curb! There are a few newer stretches and they are dead flat horizontal and a lot wider.
Sloping towards the curb makes them almost useless and too dangerous in the winter and very hard on the feet and ankles the rest of the year. Not only that but they lack lowered curbs at intersections and there is one section where a power pole is smack in the middle of the barely four foot wide slanted broken pavement.
The one that I am looking at right now has not been plowed since the last snowfall – it usually takes 4 to 5 days to a week before it is done, but since they are too unsafe to walk on it doesn’t make much of a difference anyways.
People walk in the street…a dangerous practice no matter what season it is.
the whole town a mess, looks like a battlefield out there with all the craters, i’d hate to be driving a car. Thanks Mayor Green, you made the right decision to spend that money going to china instead of snow removal…

Boo Hoo Hoo: It’s winter. It’s way north of the 49th paralell. Get over it. WHAAH!
Well for some people there are all sorts of different ways of trying to make friends… lol.
