Hamhuis Named to Team Canada
Prince George, B.C.- Vancouver Canucks defenceman, and former Prince George Cougar, Dan Hamhuis, has been named to Canada's mens hockey team that will compete in the 2014 Olympics in Sochi Russia.

This looks good on paper, at least. Go Canada.
Hamhuis? Seriously? I am a canucks fan, but Hamhuis? How any of the canucks d could even be considered for team Canada is beyond me as that is the main Achilles heel of that team this year.
He a solid D man in his own end, not flashy but accountable defensively. He’s also a left handed shot. Canada went with 4 L and 4 R shot Dmen. He could be paired with a Dman who is risky in his own end or be the 7th or 8th Dman and never play. He would never make the PP but could end up playing on the PK.
Hamhuis good choice. Way better than Bieksa who cost the Canucks numerous games this season.
Hamhuis also has a lot of international tournament experience, like many of the other players chosen. That alone could make a big difference in how the team performs.

Great choice. He is always calm, cool and disciplined. Hitting the Iron Man category with the minutes he has been logging lately. Maybe not as offensive as some D but looks after his own end well. There is lots of fire power on the team to look after the offense. Maybe they will pair him up with PK.
That is what I was thinking. Once PK was on the team I think it made the case for a guy like Hamhuis. PK is all over the ice and would be a good fit for a d-man that takes care of their own end of the ice.
