Timberwolves visit paediatrics

Thursday, January 9, 2014 @ 6:22 PM

PRINCE GEORGE, BC – It was an exciting day in the paediatric ward at the Prince George Regional Hospital Tuesday morning as a group of UNBC Timberwolves athletes payed a few children a visit.

Four members of the Timberwolves basketball program stopped in for a visit in the paediatric ward on Tuesday morning to say hi to a few fans as well as drop off five sets of tickets for each of the remaining Timberwolves home games. KJM Sales, a local company in town, generously donated five sets of Timberwolves seasons tickets so that children visiting the paediatric ward might get the chance to experience Timberwolves game first hand. Charles Barton, fifth year forward, and Mitch Howden, first year forward, represented the men's basketball team along with head coach Todd Jordan. Chelsey Thorne, fifth year guard, and Emily Kaehn, fifth year forward, were there representing the women's basketball team. Also in attendance were UNBC Athletic Director Loralyn Murdoch and KJM representative Kristen McIntosh.

It was clear to everyone there that this was a very special experience for both the athletes and the kids. One young man, Sam Russell, was very enthusiastic about getting to meet some of the UNBC players. According to him UNBC is his favourite team for many reasons.

"I like UNBC the best because they have all the good players and good girls too." When asked who his favourite player was Russell spoke quite fondly of UNBC Alumnus Sam Raphael. Raphael played five years with UNBC and graduated in 2013. "Sam was awesome, and he dunked too – a lot! He was awesome to watch."

KJM Sales has provided paediatrics with the ability to send children to every soccer and basketball game to date this season. With five season ticket packages not only are these kids able to attend the games but friends and family are able to accompany them.

The Timberwolves next home game will be Thursday, January 9 against the University of Calgary Dinos and Saturday, January 11 against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. Games will tip off at 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men both nights. For more information on the Timberwolves visit our website at unbc.ca/timberwolves.
