Prince George, BC – Defending champ Kelly Scott has claimed the first berth in Sunday's final at the BC Scotties Tournament of Hearts, beating Kesa Van Osch's rink from Victoria 8-6 this evening.
It was a heartbreaking loss for Van Osch fans in the stands at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club, as the Victoria foursome doubled Scott 6-3 this morning to end the round robin in first place with an 8-and-1 record. Scott finished in second at 7-and-2.
In tonight's game, Van Osch counted three in the 4th end, for a 4-3 lead. But Scott scored two in the 5th and stole one in the 6th to move ahead 6-4. The teams then traded singles in each of the remaining four ends.
Van Osch will have another chance to play Scott on Sunday, but first she has to win tomorrow night's semi-final at 7pm. Her opponent will be determined in tomorrow morning's Page playoff game at 10am.
That playoff will feature PG's Patti Knezevic, who finished the round robin in third place and an as-of-yet unknown rink.
An epic tiebreaker day at the Scotties continues, after the round robin finished with a five-way tie for 4th place. Prince George's Tracey Jones is still vying for the right to advance to that playoff game.
She's in a hard-fought battle with Abbotsford's Allison MacInnes. The game had been tied 3-3 after 6 ends, but MacInnes stole one in the 8th for a 4-3 lead heading into the 9th end.
