A Hill For The Whole Family

Prince George, BC – Geared for families, the Hart Highlands Ski Hill has truly carved out a niche for itself within city limits…
Moms and Dads with little ones attached to a tether make their way down the hill, alongside teens taking time out from the trick park to fuel up at the concession inside the lodge.
Nestled on Winslow Drive in the Hart, the hill is mainly run by volunteers. "We are a non-profit society and there are basically three key volunteer positions," says Gene Doucette, who fills one of those posts, supervising lift operators and handling payroll. "Then there's the people that come in on a rotating basis – we have a different volunteer pretty much every day of the week – through the membership." There are approximately 30 paid positions, as well – lift operators, staff in the concession, and rental shop employees.
Doucette says there are typically between 110 to 130 family memberships sold every year. At $270 for the first year, and $170 every year after that, he says, "We try to keep our prices as low as possible – we're geared for families."
"For the price of two or three days skiing at a larger hill, you can have your whole family skiing here for the season," he says. "It's a great place for kids to learn to ski and families to ski together. We have a wonderful ski school that's not run by the hill, it's run through a private family and they have excellent rates. It's a gem, like you say."
The hill is open between 10am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday and 6:30pm until 9:30pm Monday through Friday for night skiing. For more information, you can click here or phone 250-962-8006. For more information on ski and snowboard lessons, you can call 250-962-6784.

This little ski hill is indeed a gem. I took my kids there when they were little, it was and is a great place to learn how to ski. Easy on the budget too.

I agree that this place is a gem. I have one concern about it though: too many children (adolescents and teenagers) left without supervision and it can be a little bit dangerous on the hill for little kids learning to ski, never mind the butting into the lift line-ups.
