Prince George, BC – Kesa Van Osch's Victoria rink has defeated defending champ, Kelly Scott, 5-4 in 10 ends to win the 2014 BC Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

It was a gold medal game pegged as a 'battle of youth versus experience' by CurlBC, as the 22-year-old skip went up against veteran curler Kelly Scott, at the Prince George Golf & Curling Club tonight.  A six-time BC Scotties Champ, Scott was looking for her 5th BC title in a row and record 7th win.

Van Osch's rink trailed 4-2 after seven ends, but scored two in the 8th and managed to steal the winner in the 10th, when the young skip curled her final rock to the button.  Scott was left with a difficult shot that didn't pan out.

Family and friends of the Victoria rink in the stands erupted in cheers when the game wrapped.

"We came here to make the play-offs was our goal," says Van Osch, of her first trip to the Women's Provincials.  "And then when we came first in the round robin, it became, 'Oh, you know, it's a possibility', and here we are, we did it!"

The rink advances to the national Scott Tournament of Hearts in Montreal, February 1-9.

Speaking on behalf of her teammates, the young skip says, "(We are) so excited, we just can't – we have so much work to do, though."
