Prince George Featured on Hockey Day in Canada

Saturday, January 18, 2014 @ 4:22 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Today is Hockey Day in Canada, with Scotiabank and the CBC teaming up to recognize “Canada’s game” from coast to coast to coast.

CBC will be televising four NHL games featuring all seven Canadian teams and the day-long broadcast, focusing on the close ties between communities, their rinks and the game of

hockey, will be anchored in Lloydminster on the Alberta/Saskatchewan border.  Throughout the day the network will have live cut-ins from events taking place in Canadian cities including Prince George, with the Cougars hosting the Edmonton Oil Kings at 1:30 this afternoon.

The Cougars’ front office has plenty of activities planned before and during the game.  Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Kirk McLean will be signing autographs on the concourse from 12:45 to 1:15 pm, and there will be face painting and sign making so that local fans can show off their enthusiasm for hockey to the rest of the country during the broadcast cut-ins.  The first intermission of the game features a Dash for Cash, with a few lucky fans picking  as many loonies and toonies off the ice as they can in one minute.  The second intermission contest is the Cougars Chuck-a-Puck, with local restaurant gift cards up for grabs.

The Cougars are offering a two-for-one ticket deal for today’s game for both the general public and season ticket holders.  However you should note that all two-for-one ticket sales must be done directly with Ticketmaster.  And the first 4,000 fans to enter CN Centre for today’s WHL game will get a free Hockey Day in Canada toque.

Some of the sponsors of hockey day who have come aboard locally include the 2015 Canada Winter Games and Trans Canada Corporation.

What are they going to do with the all the leftover toque’s.

This should be fun, bringing the kids. I Wish they had more afternoon games. I just went on ticketmaster. They are about 70% sold out.

You mean 70% given away–
You got to try to fill the Area somehow-
