Prince George, B.C. It is Weedless Wenesday, the day smokers are urged to “butt out” and start  their first day on the road to a smoke free life.

Provincial Minister of Health Terry Lake was  at UNBC today, to spread the word .

"B.C. has the advantage of having the lowest smoking rate in the country, thanks to a strong tobacco control policy and  supports for smokers like the Smoking Cessation Program and QuitNow services," said Lake.

"Smokers will see health benefits after just one day of being smoke-free and Weedless Wednesday encourages smokers to think about a one-day-at-a-time approach."

Medical students training in the northern medical program at UNBC recommend quitting by taking easy to achieve steps.

Suggestions include:

* Choose a quit date and tell everyone about your big day.

* Decide on your quit method. The Smoking Cessation Program is a great resource.

* Know your triggers.

* Conquer your cravings. Consider drinking more water, and eating fruit and vegetables.

* Manage withdrawal. Call HealthLinkBC at 8-1-1, or go online to QuitNow.ca for help.

* Build your social support. Call or text a friend.

* Control your environment – don't go places you know smokers will be.

Benefits of quitting include increased confidence, whiter teeth, fresher breath, clearer skin and fewer wrinkles, as well as improved breathing and fitness.

Since Sept. 30, 2011, the Smoking Cessation Program has placed close to 247,000 orders for nicotine replacement therapies through HealthLink BC. As well, over 62,000 people have obtained a prescription for a smoking cessation drug while visiting their physician for another reason.

ohhh, I read the head lines, I thought they were referring to Wacky Tobaccy.

I agree with HeSpoke on this, being a weed user myself i find it kind of dumb they would name it weedless wednesday when it is clearly an anti tobacco campaign.

It’s a good thing it was posted at 4:23 and not 4:20

Maybe was done as to attract more viewers… or the writer was stoned…hehehe

FEWER WRINKLES ???? Whereeeee

They forgot to mention a clearer brain, and the ability to think more clearly and quickly.

Smoke robs oxygen from the blood stream, and therefore you get less oxygen to the brain,.

Is there a difference between smoking pot and tobacco??? I know that smoking pot makes you act silly, but other than that does it also effect the brain, lungs, like tobacco??

The only benefits to smoking are the benefits that those who sell tobacco or weed get, ie; MONEY. There is no benefit to those who actually use this s..t, other than having your brain and health impaired.

If you look on smoking as a ploy by big tobacco to get you to part with your money, it might help you to quit. Remember, every time you buy a pack of cigs, the big tobacco companies, and the Government laugh all the way to the bank.

“The only benefits to smoking are the benefits that those who sell” “weed get”

In your opinion.

But… bottom line… Gov’t will rake in the bucks soon as both are legal. then they will come up with some plan telling ya to stop the weed addiction.. By that time, everyone will become absent minded and forget what they were supposed to quit.

Cancer cures smoking!

Dragonmaster. |Health benefits from smoking marijauana excepted.

Do you really think they want everyone to quit? Just think of the millions they will lose in taxes.

chevy: “Do you really think they want everyone to quit? Just think of the millions they will lose in taxes.”

Just think of the millions saved by not having smoking-related illness and disease taxing the healthcare system.

RE: Just think of the millions saved by not having smoking-related illness and disease taxing the healthcare system.

Just think of the thousands of health professionals that will be outta work if everyone quits smoking

@stillsmokin: Now I’ve heard everything.

Think about this for a moment: the number of smokers has decreased yet cancer rates are on the rise…
