Majority of B.C. Residents Have Not Received Flu Shot
Prince George, B.C.- Another flu immunization clinic is set for Friday at the Northern Interior Health Unit, but a new Ipsos Reid poll shows the majority of British Columbians have not received a shot.
The survey indicates 42% have received a flu shot this season. Of those who have received the shot, the majority (61%) are over the age of 55.
Of those who have not received a shot, 57% believe the side effects can cause more problems than getting the flu.
Those who have not gotten a flu shot are also not intending to get one this season. Only 5% of British Columbians without the shot say that they ‘definitely will’ or ‘probably will’ get the flu shot this season.
Northern Interior Health Officer Dr. William Osei has said repeatedly that the incidence of flu in the North is “normal” . The survey also shows that 43% of those questioned believe the H1N1 flu issue has been sensationalized in B.C.
If you are among the 5% of those who have not yet received a flu shot, but intend to, the Northern Health flu shot clinic is set for 1-3:30 pm on Friday at the Northern Interior Health Unit.

After all the moaning and groaning and fear mongering from health officials about almost being out of vaccine, and not being sure when they would be able to get more is probably a good thing that not everyone wanted the vaccine.
If it wasn’t for the fact that I made a concerted effort to find out where the clinics were this year I would never have known where they were….
I wonder how many of the majority are health care professionals?
Every time when I was still working and got the flu shot, I ended up getting sick, and 3 times I ended up having it turn to pneumonia, and since I retired in 07′ I’ve only had the flu once, so as far as I’m concerned, it’s no more flu shots for me!
NoWay- we health care professionals were given these choices, get the shot or wear a mask all the times fro Dec 1st through till April. It is enforced, believe me.
We health care professionals wish the public would adhere to the rules posted by all entrances stating if you’ve haven’t had your shot wear a mask, if you are exhibiting signs of being ill don’t come to visit! The basic rules you learned should be applied too-wash your hands, cover your mouth/nose when you sneeze or cough, throw your tissues and stay away from people who are already ill or compromised, they don’t need your germs too!
What’s wrong with getting the flu.
Well, like most things these days it is blown way out of proportion to protect the over protected generation we are breeding. They should never get sick, there are no losers, everyone is a winner, if someone calls you a name they are bullying you, and on and on it goes. Pretty soon they will all be only able to sit at home on their iphones, ipads, and socialize only over the air because they will be too afraid to go out and actually be around real people.
We are living in an idiocracy.
Manipulating the general public annually with flu shots may very well modify everyone’s immune system to such a degree that without a flu shot we will be unable to fend off flu viruses (and perhaps other viruses).
One could call it an engineering effort, a kind of GMO assault on the body’s natural defense system.
Perhaps we should track the countries of origin of the latest flu viruses and ban infected travellers from entering our country unless they can prove that they are virus free. It appears that the flu is usually imported from Asia.
So PG are you saying shots of any type should also be banned?
No, I have not said anything of the kind. I wonder where you got that idea from?
Obviously there are very serious diseases such as smallpox, polio and so forth. Vaccines have helped to protect people from those, in some instances a disease has even been eradicated.
There is no indication that the flu (influenza) has been diminished or that it has been eradicated in some countries by relentless vaccinations.
In any case, making people dependent on annual vaccinations to prevent a flu infection may be more problematic than our health officials let us know.
A flu shot is still up to individual choice, of course and that is a great democratic option.
I have made my own experiences and I won’t ever have another flu shot.
“A flu shot is still up to individual choice, of course and that is a great democratic option.”
I wonder for how long that will be. When will government initiate a fine if caught without a shot?
When will a court case uphold the case law since it will be seen to be in the general safety interest of the public which is seen to be of greater importance than the interest of the individual.
So you are all saying that the flu is not serious and just suck it up.
PG do a Google, myths of flu shots and apply that to your experiance. You seem to think the flu is not serious. Tell that to the relatives of the thousands that die from it each year.
Flu risk will not diminish because it is not one disease like small pox, it changes from year to year.
It is my democratic choice to wear or not to wear a parachute while sky diving.
Seamut, end of discussion! I don’t subscribe to sarcastic ridicule.
Shows you the validity of polls, less than a third of actual BC residents have the flu shot – 1.3 million doses to 4.6 million population (2013 est).
So between 28 and 29% have actually had the flu shot, but the poll indicates 42% of respondents – so what is the margin of error? And what demographic was missed in the poll for its results to be so far off?
57% of 58% who did not get the shot in the poll (33% of the BC population polled) believe the side effects of the shot are worse than the actual flu.
Poll data indicates:
1,500,000 people in BC think the flu shot is bad and will not get the shot
1,300,000 actual people got flu shots (poll says 1.9 million)
130,000 more will probably get the flu shot (5% of 58%)
1,670,000 people in BC will not get the shot (plus those that think it is bad)
Interesting! NH has announced that this is a “normal” flu season!
The flu vaccine is usually less than 40% effective, many people who had the shot still get the flu, often because the vaccine was made for a certain strain months ahead of time and the actual strain when it arrived was different.
Gus, the day may come that we will all be marched off to the injection site, wouldn’t put it past them!
Is that the stomping of feet I hear.
I think it is your split personality seamut/seamutt trying to get together again?
You can’t handle the truth.
