Genetically Modified Organisms, Up for Discussion at Exploration Place
Prince George, B.C.- Genetically Modified Organisms, a subject that can cause polarized debate.
It is a subject that will be up for discussion this evening at Exploration Place in Prince George.
Genome, British Columbia is working with UNBC to host “Brining Genomics Home” a balanced panel discussion about genetically modified organisms.
“Every day we se more and more in the news about GMOs” says Dr. Alan Winter, President and CEO of Genome BC, “As an organization that values open discussion and diverse points of view, we are looking forward to this engaging panel session.”
The session wil be moderated by former Prince George City Councillor Don Bassermann and panel members will be:
- Serena Black, a graduate student at UNBC comparing hybrid to conventional barley
- Yvonna Breed a local organic farmer
- Shawn Mansfield, Professor in the Faculty of Forestry at UNBC
- Jillian Merrick Co ordinate of Beyond the Market project with Community Futures of Fort George.
This is a free, public event, that will get underway at 6:30 this evening. The goal of the event is to educate attendees on what a GMO is isn’t, so there is greater understanding of GMOs.
