Jury To Start Deliberations in Matters Inquest
Prince George, B.C. – The Jury at the Coroner’s inquest into the death of Greg Matters will retire this morning to begin deliberations and craft its recommendations.
Presiding Coroner Chico Newell will deliver instructions to the jury this morning, and the written submissions for the jury to consider as possible recommendations.
The jury is to determine classification of death of Gregory Matters, deciding whether his death on September 10th, 2012 was:
- Natural
- Accidental
- Suicide
- Homicide
- Undetermined
It is important to note that in the case of death classification, “homicide” indicates the death was as a result of another’s actions, but does not, in any way, infer intent.
The jury will also define the time of death and location.
From there, the jury can make any number of recommendations it believes may be helpful in preventing a similar tragedy in the future.
Yesterday, testimony wrapped up with the Jury hearing from the Veterans Transition Network about possible recommendations that could offer support or assistance to those veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Matters was one of those veterans.
The jury also heard testimony from an Independent Investigations Officer about some of the evidence, Rob Stutt testified Gregory Matters’ fingerprints were not found on the hatchet he was said to have been threatening officers with. He also testified that although no evidence was found to say the hatchet was in Matters’ hand, there was also no evidence to suggest it wasn’t.

All a pack of lies, to confuse a cover up.
The truth lies in the other members of the swat team. Such a shame that the rest of the members have to live with such shame for the rest of their lives.
One trigger happy cop and the rest feel obligated to lie and the so call new investigation team did a half assed job also in support of the cover up. Yes its a real shame and cost a life for no reason.
