It doesn’t matter if Trudoh has forced all the former Liberal senators to sit as independents. The fact is they are still going to be appointed, and they will be appointed by the party in power. Until we have a truly elected senate we cannot call it a democratic body.

I agree! An elected senate is the only democratic way! However, not requiring them to attend caucus meetings and giving them an opportunity to sit as independents is a move in the right direction!
A truly elected senate is not going to happen overnight! They were all appointed and they are not going to just fade away.
Abolishing the senate like Mulcair is suggesting would leave democracy open to even more manipulation and abuse.
