Cougars Earn 10-6 Win in Saskatoon.
Wednesday night in Saskatoon, the Prince George Cougars grabbed their second straight victory on their eastern road trip, a 10-6 decision over the Saskatoon Blades. Brad Morrison paced the Cougars with a goal and three assists, while Jansen Harkins, Zach Pochiro and Tate Olson all had three point games. The Cougars finished three-for-five on the power play and scored seven goals in the first period.
By the 11:21 mark of the first period the Cougars led 5-0. Joe Carvalho got the Cougars on the board with a power play marker from the point. Todd Fiddler then picked off a failed clearing attempt and roofed one over Troy Trombley's shoulder to make it 2-0. Troy Bourke and Jordan Tkatch then scored nine seconds apart at around the eight minute mark to extend the Cougars lead to 4-0. Trombley would then be pulled from the game after Jansen Harkins scored at 11:21. Trombley would return to start the second period though for Saskatoon.
Cameron Hebig then got the Blades on the board with a power play marker at 15:06, but the Cougars then notched two more thanks to Brad Morrison and Tate Olson.
Connor Sanvido scored with three seconds left in the period for Saskatoon to make the game 7-2.
Logan Harland and Ryan Graham scored second period goals for Saskatoon to push the game to 7-4, but Zach Pochiro restored the Cougars four goal lead with a power play marker at 16:05.
Right before the mid-way point of the period, Saskatoon had a chance to get back within three, but Cameron Hebig was denied on a penalty shot attempt by the right pad of Ty Edonds.
Prince George took an 8-4 lead into the final period, but naturally the Saskatoon Blades refused to roll over.
Shortly after Zach Pochiro made it 9-4 for PG, the Blades bounced back with two quick goals courtesy of Cameron Hebig and Mitch Lipon.
The Blades thought they had inched even closer, but the referees disallowed a goal near the mid-way point of the period to keep the Cougars lead at three.
The game's final goal might have been the prettiest of the night. Jansen Harkins took the puck from his own zone and dangled through two Blades defenders before sneaking a wrist shot past Trombley to secure his second goal of the game and third point of the night.
Despite the 10-6 loss, Saskatoon outshot the Cougars 42-37. Prince George scored three goals on five power play attempts, while the Blades went one-for-five.
The victory moves the Cougars to 20-26-2-5, but Tri-City won in Calgary leaving the Cougars eight points back of the playoffs with 19 games now remaining in their regular season.
Next up for Prince George: The Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.
