Prince George, B.C. – A woman is in hospital with non life threatening injuries having been struck by the trailer of a tractor trailer unit at 5th and Carney last evening.
The semi- did not remain at the scene, and RCMP are still trying to locate the driver of the rig involved. “It is possible the driver of the semi is not aware that a person was struck by the trailer as he made the turn” says Corporal Craig Douglass, media liaison officer with the Prince George RCMP.
RCMP say the incident happened just before 9:30
While the investigation continues, Prince George RCMP would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident.

Well that is a brutal corner for semi’s. They either almost hit the meridian on 5th, or have wheels go onto the sidewalk (depending on driver skill of course).
I hate this intersection. It’s a pedestrian death trap. Especially at that NW corner where this accident occured. I hope she has speedy recovery.
Do some land expropriation and put in a better turning radius for the semi’s
If the trucks are trying to get onto Highway 97 North from coming from the east. Perhaps better signage on first avenue and having them use the Cameron Street bridge.
This route was piss poor planning from day one. The corners these poor truckers have to take to get from Hwy 16 westbound to Hwy 97 northbound (vice-versa) is insane.
I feel sorry for the pedestrian; you really need to be on your toes and to keep your eyes open in this city if you walk or bike.
How did you get 16 and 97 from 5th and Carney?
You are so right, axman. I do a lot of walking in PG and if I am not endangered by the many poor, inconsiderate drivers in this city, I am harassed by unleashed dogs.
Don’t expect any support from Mayor Green, Bill Gaal or bylaw enforcement.

That’s the route a lot of trucks take to get from Hwy 16 (inbound from the East) to Hwy 97 North.
Time to install a roundabout there?
Pedestrians need to look around and be aware of their surroundings and stop thinking there is an invisible force field around them.
Signage would help, direct truck traffic coming in from the east to use alternative route up the old Cariboo highway past the airport through to highway 97 which would allow them to either turn north or south bound on highway 97.
