Ratification of CN Agreement Fails

Friday, January 31, 2014 @ 3:28 PM

Prince George, B.C. – It’s back to the bargaining table for CN and  the union representing  its conductors, train persons,  yard persons and  traffic co- ordinators.

Ratification of the  tentative  labour  agreement reached last fall, has  failed.

The  railway says it plans to meet with the leaders of the  Teamsters Canada Rail Conference – Conductors, Trainpersons and Yardpersons (TCRC-CTY) next week  to  talk about  how they will move forward.

The TCRC-CTY  last contract expired   July 22nd. The TCRC-CTY represents about 3,000 CN workers across the country.

Not surprised the way CN treats their employees. It’s time to stand up to the corporate bigwigs.

CN is horrible since it took over from Bc Rail. Always bringing in the wrong cars, missing pick ups and drop offs, so bad at times mills have to reduce production.

If a job takes 80 hrs to learn yet the trainee doesn’t feel adequately trained they make them do the job anyways. No wonder CN has so many derailments .

They should just consider themselves lucky to have jobs……or isnt that the sentiment heard when the City CUPE workers were trying to get a deal lol

There does seem to be a lot more train derailments and accidents lately. If I was the union, I would be negotiating safer working conditions for their members, if not that, then better life insurance and long term disability rates for their members, because it looks like more and more are going to be using them!

CN had major lay offs when it was privatized a number of years ago. In fact they cut workers to the bone. When they bought BC Rail they got rid of a bunch more jobs.

So they have been working pretty thin for years.

In my opinion there is no room for anymore lay-offs, and I expect that at the end of the day CN will sign a contract, rather than risk at strike.

If they go on strike, (especially in the winter) they will never be able to pick up the back log until late spring. In addition with the lumber market booming and rail shipments to the USA booming, they and a lot of mills, lumber and pulp, will lose billions.

Rail strikes do not usually last longer than 5 days, however that is sufficient time to really screw up the system.

Knowledge.. Grab a clue… CN is hiring.. Why don’t you apply and find out how lucky they are.

Its already screwed up IMO. The mill where I work at has had to shut down for days at a time due to lack of rail cars. Getting tired of CN’s excuses.

Right now there is over 130,000 railcards stuck in Chicago due to weather..

Knowledge88 Why is it only public sector union workers that have to come on sites like this one and try to tell how hard they work and how much they deserve a raise. Like if they say it often enough people might actually believe it.

Almost time for the teachers to dust off their News250 login info and wind up the stories of how hard done by they are and then another cupe or psac local.
Never saw Canfor or CN beating the union drum on here, Could be they were busy working instead of talking about how hard it to get by on a 16.5% raise.

etwitt states; “Almost time for the teachers to dust off their News250 login info and wind up the stories of how hard done by they are…”

Hard done by enough that the BC Supreme Court ruled in the teacher’s favour (again)just three days ago!

“It is all about the kids” Translation “we want a raise”

“It is all about the kids” Translation “we want what Alberta gets”

“It is all about the kids” Translation “we want more time off”

“It is all about the kids Translation “we want to retire early with full pension”

and on and on it goes people#2

ewitt, why do you even read the news? ‘Pears you already know it all.

Canoe and CN workers to busy working to be on here..ewitt. What ya smokin bud.. You are clearly not in step, with reality

North Central BC is at the mercy of CN Rail ever since they bought BC Rail.

If BC Rail had to be sold (which I doubt) then it should have been sold to CP Rail, or Burlington Northern or some other private railway, that would give us some competition in this area. Competition keeps other business’s on their toes.

As it now stands, CN Rail has a monopoly in North Central BC, and you get what they give you, like it or not.

There are a number of politicians, and business people who supported the sale of BC Rail, however I doubt they had any idea of the consequences if CN was the successful bidder. That’s what happens when you get pseudo intellects, running business, or Governments, who in actual fact don’t know diddly squat about anything.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

That 2 million dollars of taxpayers money that the liberal govt of British Columbia will be handing over to the teachers would be well spent on a huge party for teachers and their families.

Looks like someone jammed your soother back in about 8:37 the evening Dragon:-/

hey ewitt I don’t believe you really had a teacher, by the sounds of it grade 2 must have been the hardest thing in your life. sounds like a non graduate with the nickname of dimwit all these doctors dentists lawyers engineers all had one thing in common good teachers!!!! why don’t you go and help out at one of the schools provided you can pass a criminal record check

Me thinks CN will want to settle quickly so they know how much money they have left to twin the tracks west to the new refinery in Kitamat, No pipe line means more railcars full of crude oil. Cant wait!

Wow,,,,you folks have this story soooo wrong, and fact is so fiction as said.

Willyj since you seem to think you know the truth. Please enlighten us all. Btw I deal with CN on a daily basis.

So I guess you could not find any examples of private sector unions coming on this site to try to justify their bargaining position? I could fill pages of public sector whining, moaning, crying, sniveling and whinging from this site alone and that it just cupe.

If you ever decide to increase your knowledge to 89 things a suggestion would be the proper use of your, yore and you’re.

Thats Probably why you should shush it if you work for the Company…You did sign an agreement to not comment about the Co.
