Conrad Black Stripped of Canadian Honours
Friday, January 31, 2014 @ 5:04 PM
Ottawa – This very brief and terse announcement has just been made from the Rideau Hall office of the Governor General in Ottawa.
“Jan. 31, 2014 – Today, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, has accepted the recommendation of the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada to terminate Mr. Conrad Black's appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada.
In addition, the Governor General has also accepted the recommendation from the Prime Minister to remove Mr. Black from The Queen's Privy Council for Canada.
Both decisions are effective immediately.”

I whole heartedly agree with stripping Conrad Black of these honours, however I do not agree with bestowing Rob Ford with these same honours… or was that just a rumour? ;-)
Next step is to deport Black to his beloved England.
Yah, just because he has money, he is fair game for the lefties.
Did he finally write something against Israel? Or say something that any Jew anywhere, even an ex-partner in crime, could construe as being ‘anti-Semitic’? Can’t think of anything else that might get one stripped of that honor. Oh, well, small loss. They hand out Orders of Canada to pretty near anyone over here. Bring back knighthood, and lets have some full scale Lords of our own, like we used to have.
I doubt if losing the Order of Canada or being removed from the Queens privy Council will have a big effect on Conrad Black.
It appears that in reality he doesn’t have much use for Government institutions. At least if you can go by some of his comments.
Some others who have been stripped of the Order of Canada.
1. Alan Eagleson
2. Davis Ahenakew
3. T. Sher Singh
4. Steve Fonyo
5. Garth Drabinsky
Should add Suzuki to that list.
WHO CARES????
The question I have is whose fault is it that he and any of the others who may have been stripped of the honour got it in the first place?
Was there not something that each one of them did to earn that honour. If so, how can those things that they did be changed? Did they lie about what they did? Did they cheat in what they did to earn the honour to begin with? Were they fraudulent in what they did to earn the honour?
Finally, why was the honour not removed when he renounced his Canadian Citizenship in order to become of Baron in the UK?
I mean anyone can obviously be a Baron, criminal record or not.
So, with a criminal record and lacking a Canadian passport, will he be allowed entry into Canada?
oooooohhhhh! Burn!
I’m sure he’s crying himself to sleep.
Good move. I think it is well deserved. To these guys the loss of that status is probably a fairly big deal.
I doubt he gives it more than a second thought.
Lets not forget that it was John Chretian who refused to allow Black to become a Baron. For a Canadian to receive the Baronship, they have to have the approval of the Prime Minister of Cda, and Chretian (who did not like Black) refused to give it.
So Black gave up his Citizenship to receive the honor,. Hmmmmm.

He went to court to try and get the opportunity to speak his case to the advisory council so I’d say he cared.
It’s unfortunate that Governors-General and even the monarch as ultimate Head of State of Canada have allowed Prime Ministers to exceed their authority when it comes to dispensing ‘honors’.
All this nonsense of denying Canadians the right they previously had to be knighted or become a Lord, or even some higher order of noble honor, began with MacKenzie King.
But King George V, the present Queen’s grandfather, and a monarch who wasn’t about to be pushed around by some pip-squeak of a Prime Minister when it came to whom he could honor when he felt such recognition was warranted, simply ignored him. Honors were one area where the Sovereign was still ‘sovereign’ ~ and for good reason.
So we had numerous Canadians who were knighted by King George V who didn’t have to give up their citizenship or be denied residency, (because, formally, there was no such thing as Canadian citizenship until after World War Two.)
When Mackenzie King wanted novelist John Buchan appointed Governor General as a ‘commoner’, (without having a title), King George V refused to be represented by anyone who was not a ‘peer’, and made Buchan Lord Tweedsmuir before he appointed him.
It may seem today to be archaic and petty, but a very important principle was being maintained by the King’s example ~ that being that no Prime Minister is going to be the ultimate authority without any ‘checks and balances’ on his power.
That good government is always trinitarian, not totalitarian. Where the monarch, as the ultimate representative of the first and still most basic mode of human association ~ the ‘family’ ~ and not just the ‘Royal’ family, but all families, is the font of Executive power, and serves as a personal check on the powers of the ‘active’ Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government. A Prime Minister or a Premier is still only an ‘advisor’ to the Crown. And this is as it should be. The system is a good system ~ when it’s allowed to work.
He was stripped of his Honours? I am devastated, but life must go on, although things will never be the same again!
socredible must be off his meds if he thinks that the Order of Canada is controlled by the International Jewish Conspiracy. Alan Eagleson was removed after being jailed for fraud. Garth Drabinsky as removed after criminal convictions for fraud and forgery. T. Sher Singh was removed after he was disbarred for professional misconduct. Steve Fonyo was removed after several criminal convictions. Conrad Black was also removed as the result of a criminal conviction for fraud. Of the six men removed form the Order of Canada, five were removed for reasons having nothing to do with criticism of Israel.
Moreover, you don’t have to consider criticism of Israel to be necessarily anti-Semitic to recognise David Ahenakew’s remarks as anti-Semitic. For example, he said: “The Second World War was started by the Jews.” and complained that “The Jews damn near owned all of Germany prior to the war. That’s why Hitler came in. He was going to make damn sure that the Jews didn’t take over Germany, or even Europe. That’s why he fried six million of those guys, you know. Jews would have owned the goddamned world.” That’s classical anti-Semitism about events that preceded the state of Israel.
