Alcohol at Civic Facilities Policy Pours Forth
Prince George, B.C. – When it comes to serving alcohol at City owned facilities, the pilot projects have worked with no problems say staff, as they presented City Council of Prince George with a new policy for alcohol service at City owned sites.
The new policy includes Kin1 in the new procedure that would allow alcohol in the stands and in the lounge, deeming that facility to have the same permanent liquor license as the CN Centre.
The new Policy sets guidelines on special occaision licenses, when alcohol will not be allowed ( if the event is focused at youth) and rules and regulations for ensuring minors are not served.
The final policy was put together following extensive public consultation. That consultation included 121 surveys that were completed and staff say the results indicate 80% of respondents “agreed with or were neutral regarding the implementation of the Council Procedure”.
74% supported alcohol service at the Kin 1 under the new “procedure “ guidelines.
Just last week, the Province announced it would be relaxing many of the liquor laws in B.C., to remove fencing from “beer gardens” and to allow the service of hard liquor in arenas and stadiums.
"I don't think alcohol in front of kids is a good role model" said Councilor Albert Koehler.
Councillor Koehler and Garth Frizzell voted against the policy, but the balance of Council voted in favour of moving this policy forward.

Sure, give us more access to booze everywhere, always someone out there who will abuse it. For us sensible ones, great.
Long overdue.
98% of us drink responsibly, half of the other 2%, is well aware of their vice, and typically drink at home. its the remaining 1% that wrecks for the majority.
“Drinking infront of kids” —– My opinion is that what is wrong with drinking in front of the kids. Its a part of life when they turn legal anyway. You do have to drink responsibly. You don’t want to make it so taboo, that they would go binge drinking when they become legal. A lot of European countries allow drinking and they seem to be able to control the issue.
Welcome to the 20th century.
we went to a concert an CN Centre. Will never go to one again! The young fellas were getting their friend to bring back beer for them When they got fighting and throwing the beer all over the family beside us, I said nothing but when my wife and daughter got beer thrown all over them we left. I told security but he didn’t care. Anyone can get beer there. Just get an adult to buy it and bring it back to your seats for you. OH! And no one would buy beer for young under age persons? It is very common at CN Centre. They didn’t even break up the fight!
121 surveys ??? Really??? that’s all the people in PG ??? That’s all they could muster?? Probably all staff participated.. And this equates to 80% of the people in PG ???
Instant azzwipes just add Booze..been to a couple of concerts…drunks were a problem!!
I lite my Meds and all hell breaks loose, like WTF..
TY W2..it was not just me!
This is not about responsible drinking, it is about making money.
He Spoke. Recent data from representative surveys provide no evidence that young Europeans drink more responsibly that their counterparts in the US .
A greater percentage of young people from all European countries except Iceland report drinking in the past 30 days.
A majority of the European countries included in this study have higher intoxication rates among young people than the United States and about one third of the countries have equal or lower rates to the United State; and
For a majority of these European countries, a greater percentage of young people report having been intoxicated before the age of 13.
So forget the European example.
Your statement that 98% of Canadians drink responsibly is also haywire, however I don’t have time to go into it right now.
Somehow this seems appropriate for this story.

I’m surprised anyone can drink enough of the swill they serve at CN Center to get drunk. :)
Just be sure to arrest all those violent pot smokers when they step out of line.
The 20th century was the period between January 1, 1900 and December 31, 1999. You’re only a little behind there bud!
Everything that’s wrong with this town and most people seem care about is being able to buy booze at grocery store or at the hockey game.
alcohol is the answer for everything, right? you grow a foot, become the toughest guy around, come out of your clamshell and talk to people, think your don juan and all the babes want you, slobbering on everyone, become annoying confrontational, sleep all day, talking to the great white telephone, missing work, non performance in sport related activities, think that you are Mario Andretti behind the wheel, white as a cauliflower, do the crime,do the time. worked the concerts in Vancouver in my younger days, do I miss it…..let me say this if I had a nickel for everytime I screwed up I would be a rich man………. do I miss it not likely… been there done that
Hopefully they legalize marijuana. Not to many problems with it. The only problem with it is supporting organized crime.
Hey, Dragonmaster, you figured out the point I was making. Good for you!
Meanwhile, the world laughs at our inefficient, expensive, bureaucratic liquor distribution and taxation system.
I hope the first time someone is hurt, or worse, by someone who was drinking at a city owned facility, the whole city council who voted for this is charged with accessory…
