Is Mayor Green Looking At Taking A Run At A Federal Seat

Tuesday, February 11, 2014 @ 3:45 AM

Increasingly we are hearing that Mayor Shari Green has been eyeing a possible run at the federal seat that is likely to be vacated by Dick Harris.

Just as her counterpart at city council Cameron Stolz discovered in his run for the north riding nomination , it is a very different ball game.

Green should be aware that while good news travels fast, bad news travels even faster.

Her time at the helm of the City of Prince George is not,  in the opinion of many taxpayers,  outstanding. Using this as a spring board to try and reach a more lofty peak will not earn her any points.

Getting elected as Mayor in a costly campaign  is not the same as seeking the nomination in Cariboo-Prince George. Will Dick Harris throw his support behind her bid? I have my doubts.

If there were any advice to be given to Mayor Green, it would be that, before you decide you want to move into greener pastures you should make certain that you have left the position you held in good stead. Mayor Green might not get a passing grade in that regard.

Trying to get re elected in Prince George as Mayor will be a daunting task much less trying to snatch up the federal Conservative  nomination.

I'm Meisner and that's one man's opinion.

Truer words could not be spoken . Ben , you hit the nail on the head . Sometimes people just need to realize they are not the right person for the job and step away .

well said Ben…

I hear Siberia is looking for a mayor

After all the promises and then less than stellar performance I’d hate to see what she could do in a larger capacity. That would be truly scary.
The nature of politics seems to favour those most ill suited though. Pity.

Come on folks. I am sure she could round up a few Feds to go on a picnic to China. If not the Feds, the senate must have a few who don’t mind waisting tax payers money. I would hate to have to go to Vancouver to get my passport so she would never get my vote even if she got a nomination and one the long shot chance of winning in the next Federal Election.

She has to get past the nomination first. Whoever wins that is almost assured a seat.

The territory is large … PG, Quesnel, Williams Lake … I doubt she will win that. I hear there is a reasonably strong candidate about ready to step up.

Federal politics is a different kettle of fish altogether from non-partisan municipal politics. I do not think there is all that much cross linkage amongst the “machines”.

Heyyy come on you guys.. she could easily WIN in Hixon…

Gus is dead on. If she wins the nomination, she could very well win the election – because it’ll be Conservative Shari against Liberal parachute-in candidate, NDP politically correct candidate, and someone from the green party. Last election I held my nose and voted Conservative, but I didn’t like my choice, I just hated the other choices more.

As stated, getting the nomination is the key. Once you have that, then getting elected as a Conservative in this riding is relatively easy.

Perhaps she already knows that she has support from card carrying Conservatives.

On the other hand, we are dealing with conjecture, perhaps she has no intention of running, and will take another run for Mayor, or maybe get out of politics altogether.

Ottawa could use a 10% savings in every department too!

Anything to get her the hell out of PG politics.

Think the folks who donated $81 thousand bucks to her campaign to become mayor will be happy and satisfied enough to pull that much and more out of a hat for her again so she can become a candidate federally? Based on her mayoral history. Can’t think of any major favours she has done to repay that dough. Can you?

I will join the PC party to vote against her nomination!!

“Can you?” .. Haldi comes to mind. She was possibly in a conflict of interest to help push that little rezoning thing so the womens’ help center was zoned right.
