P.G. Home to a TV Series?

Friday, February 7, 2014 @ 4:00 AM

Prince George, B.C. –  There is an effort underway to have Prince George be the home for a new television series.

Sara Shaack, who was formerly with the Film Commission in Prince George,  has been working with a  partner to secure the funding necessary for the  program.

Shaack you may recall was the one  who   brought the film crew of “Reindeer Games”  and “Dreamcatcher” to Prince George.

She is not ready to  share details of the actual program being considered for P.G.  but says  “Prince George is the place to do it.”

“Just as the  shows Northern Exposure and Twin Peaks were set in a real location,  Prince George has a variety of elements that would make it the perfect setting” says  Shack.

She has been working with a variety of  local  agencies,  including City Hall, to pin down some details that will assist her in securing the financing needed for the show.   When asked if Prince George had the  infrastructure to support  the  post production needs of  a  t.v.  crew,  Shaack  says that isn’t a concern.  Today,  post production can be  done by any studio that has  an internet connection.

There are benefits  to having a television  program shot  in Prince George says Shaack,  there  is the exposure a variety of   sites  would   get and  there is an economic benefit as a television crew stays  on location longer than a film crew.

For now,  she’s crossing her fingers, and hopes to have a  final decision in the  weeks ahead, but says she  has been  very pleased with the positive  support  the idea has received from  everyone she has been  dealing with in Prince George.  “Prince George is a great location for a t.v. series,  and  everyone I have  talked with  has been great.   I can say Prince George is really stepping up to  make this  happen.”

What is it going to be called “Trailer Park Boys move to the Big City”?

Bad road Survivor? Or. Beyond Hope! BCs heartland ?

It’s going to be an evening soap opera called “City Hall” I think Tina Faye is cast as the Mayor and i believe Eugene Levy is cast as Councilor Stolz.

A mystery suspense…hunting the mythical snowplow….

Do not ever underestimate Sara Shaak. She is VERY bright and is very good at what she does. She also has a loyalty to Prince George.

I’ve got two story lines.

One is a man accidentally falls into one of our famous potholes and can’t get out. Much like the show “24” each episode is an hour of the “day” and the rush to get him out and how his family copes with literally losing their father and husband to the streets.

The 2nd one is about a man who gets trapped in his house because he can’t get his vehicle past his own driveway due to lack of snow removal on his street and he slowly goes insane. One day his wife wakes up and he is gone. However, there are no tracks out in the snow and all his belongings are where they should be. He has simply vanished.

Easy jokes aside, I do believe the woman’s name is spelled ‘Shaak’.

Maybe its going to be a golf show, called Caddie Shaak.

How about Hard Parts, The Bowl? Antics and personalities galore? Pawn Stores? You never know what people will bring in. Their neighbours lawnmower. Tools and break in loot. “I got a friend who will tell me what your neighbours snow blower is worth”. PG Pickers? Instead of visiting folks for treasures, these pickers can find parts of autos in and around pot holes. Finally, a show called “Nice Pilots”. A show where a rinky dink little airplane constantly takes off and lands at our super duper looooong runway. Half an hour advertising to the world about our swell airport.

Neither Twin Peaks, Washington nor Cicely, Alaska are real places. Both were fictional. They were shot in real places, but that is true of most programs.

Northern Exposure wasn’t even shot in Alaska, it was mostly shot in Washington. I can imagine that the cost of filming in Alaska compared to Washington would be significantly more.

Gilligan’s Island wasn’t ‘shot’ on an island. They lied to me.

Perhaps the series would be **Fantasy Airport**,.

We could have a little guy standing in the tower yelling. **De plane boss, de plane**

perhaps we should call the tv series REDNECK SNOW REMOVAL

Whattttt NO Santa either????

You guys sure have a snce of humor in PG.
Cheers

I bet it has something to do with the Hood or policing.

Sounds like the CBC is looking to waste more money on more unwatchable crap.

Maybe a TV version of the movie ‘Fubar’. Casting would be easy.

weaksauce, how do you know it’s the CBC?

When I heard this news my first thought was an “action” reality show focused on the logging industry.

Well if Sara Shaak hasnt sighned a deal
why even say anything. You would think there would be more facts than fiction here.
The media is jumping the gun a bit here as well. Kind of like moose hunting, track soup doesnt feed the family. Just saying.

I believe we have a winner with Palopu’s “Fantasy Airport” :-)

“She has been working with a variety of local agencies, including City Hall, to pin down some details that will assist her in securing the financing needed for the show.”

Like the airport, will the taxpayers be footing the bill for another “dream”? I hope this is not the case, but we will have to wait and see.

It is a catch 22 situation, the way I see it. Who is first out the gate when there has to be work done to put a “deal” together …. those who become aware of it because they have to be brought in, or those who are proposing it.

Better those who are proposing it say, “we are ready” to let the community know there is something going on than someone else.

In this case, 250NEWS likely found out something was going on and she could respond. This is the way she responded. Little other choice.

One is damned if they do or damned if you don’t. Another Catch22.

Things do not just happen, they take time.

Maybe “Council Chamber of Horrors”?

The CBC costs taxpayers over 1 billion per year. We are not getting our money’s worth, that’s for sure.

We are “we” and why do you proclaim to speak for them?

Oops, that should be Who are “we” . . .

Shari Pothole & The Chamber of Secrets?

Interesting comment gus. It made me think about the role of business in general. I have always thought that business is there to fill a demand. Kind of like Phoenix, Arizona having no air-conditioner business, people living in a hot, dry, arid area will create a demand for an air-conditioning business. Demand established, business follows to fill that demand! Kind of like demand is the horse and business is the cart, if I can describe it that way.

But sometimes we get into backward situations like the PG Airport where business tells us there is a demand, and if there isn’t, it will just create that demand. Well we all know how that is working out. We can’t have the cart leading the horse, it just does not work that way! IMO.

Wow I think detoe43 pulled ahead with that one!

“We can’t have the cart leading the horse, it just does not work that way!”

The difficulty is to figure out which is the cart and which is the horse. The actual situation is that the horse does not lead, the horse pulls. Humans are the ones who lead. They invent and design the carts and find a way to move it, whether by humans or other animals, such as horses.

So, the saying one is putting the cart before the horse is actually a preconceived idea which is applied by people who do not have an open mind and really do not understand the multifaceted way that one can develop activity.

Would you say that the people who build the railway across the country via a countryside with very little population put the cart before the horse? Think about it.

The world of business is not perfect. There are many risks involved with business whether large or small. They get born and they die. Airports are built and maintained by governments. Mirabel airport in Montreal was a “failure”. So was the proposed Pickering airport for which the feds expropriated land in order to replace Pearson Airport.

There are no guarantees.

There are no guarantees. Just death and taxes.

I forgot to add the conservatives getting re-elected.

For those of you that watched the premier of this new comedy show, it was called Dave Barry interviews tyne photo opportunist mayor who sidesteps every issue with big three dollar words that are often used out of context to appear intelligent in her artsy fartsy way, “We mayors had to galvanize our efforts to advocate for our crime ridden towns.” Talk about a mouthful of hype! She makes a better actor than a mayor so now we know why she said she is not sure if she will run again! Just a hint Shari! Quit your day job!!! Please. Do us all a favour. Seven months without being able to drive out of my pothole ridden street is too much. I liked the premier of your weekly show. Believe me! I laughed all the way through it. Didn’t find that Dave Barry guy very funny but you were hilarious! QUIT YOUR DAY JOB. Do it. You’ve found your calling. Sign her up Sara Shaak. You’ve got a real actor here!
