Smithers, BC –  One man is dead and another is in custody after a stabbing on a downtown street in Smithers last night.

North District Media Relations Officer, Constable Lesley Smith, say officers discovered a 26-year-old local man in medical distress after receiving reports of a stabbing on Main Street just before midnight.  The victim was taken to Bulkley Valley Regional Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

Constable Smith says a 21-year-old man has been arrested and charges are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.  No names are being released at this time.
