BC Exports To Key Markets Climb

Sunday, February 9, 2014 @ 4:30 AM

Prince George, BC – According to Statistics Canada, BC continues to make in-roads in trade with China and India…

The province exported a total of $33.6-billion dollars worth of BC products in 2013, an increase of 6.9-percent over 2012.  Exports to China were up 13.6-percent last year to $6.8-billion dollars, while exports to India totalled $466.6-million – up 45-percent from 2012.

The Liberal Government has identified China, India, Japan and Korea as priority markets for the province.  The gains to China and India were offset by decreases to Korea and Japan of 3.9-percent and 1.7-percent, respectively.

Exports to BC's largest trading partner, the US, were up 12.3-percent to $15.8-billion dollars last year, due mainly to the continued rebound of the US housing market.  The value of wood product exports south of the border jumped 24-percent compared to 2012.

BC's 6.9-percent growth in exports outpaced the country as a whole, with Canadian exports rising 3.5-percent compared to 2012.

Great work Shari! All those trips paid off!

Obviously Japan and Korea are miffed about Shari giving them the cold shoulder!

They don’t break out the numbers by commodities. I suspect the big increase to China is in log and coal exports, while the huge increase to the US is Lumber.

Obviously not exporting manufactured items. Must be from the earth. Drawers of waters and hewers of wood still. Speaking of water, every one needs some. Starting with Caleeefornia. Water? More precious than oil. Imagine all the lefties getting their panties in a bunch with water pipelines? Not so much the pipelines but the water therein. Could happen.

Lefty my ass harbinger, its the next big draw the USA wants it badly. However we better play this one smart or face our own problems in years to come. We are already giving major water suppliers a free ride selling millions of gallons and making over 260 million in profits employing 46 people and paying $275,000 to the province for the water. Today water has more value than oil and in the future even more so lets play this smart and make sure we don’t screw ourselves even more.

Never mind, steph99, if our water is worth lots in California where there’s a shortage of it, our government, whether it’s ‘left’ or ‘right’, won’t ever rest til it finds a way to financially penalise every British Columbian for the abundance we have of it here.

Nothing new, we’ve done it with everything else ~ hydro-electric power, natural gas, etc. ~ every resource where we have a ‘natural advantage’ through abundance. We end up paying MORE for our own plenty than we sell it to others for to make up for their own shortages.

I am afraid its not just California that will need our water.

Yet what are we doing with our water right now?

Billions of liters of our fresh water is being mixed with a cocktail of toxic chemicals for fracking.

No… I am not saying stop all fracking and natural gas extraction, but lets do it in a more controlled, sustainable, and regulated manner.
